Don't give up on a friend if they have a drug problem, seriously I had one, and really all I needed the most was sometime to not give up on me, and show me the other side of the world without drugs. So please, dont give up on them, fill them with encouragement and tons of support, because really as much as it seems like they dont need you, they really do.

I'd never give up on a friend.
Like saranegromittens said, i wouldn't give them money or facilitate their addiction in anyway, but i'd spend time with them and give them the occasional phone call. It's really important for someone to know they have support--of any kind. The people who are the most prone to addiction are those who don't have very many social supports in place and have poor coping mechanisms (which are develped as we're being raised in our individual families). The people who have more of a chance at beating their addictions are those who have the right support systems in place. Good friends are an incredibly important thing to have when you're facing any sort of traumatizing life situation.

i used to be adddicted to self-mutilation ...
then... i tried turpentine... and sniffing glue.... it was horrible...Ugh... and a few months ago... i became a drug abuser... i would intentionally increase my dose of whatever antidepressant i was taking... oh... I became restless... Thank-god I never did recreational drugs.... phew.... If I did do them... bad stuff would happen.... you know... lots of bad stuff...
