For some people working at a coffee shop when they're 20 IS bad. It's ok to have drive and motivation when you're young. I've worked my ass off to be where I am today. I'm doing exactly what I want to do and in 4 months, i'll have a university degree, a job almost anywhere I'd like in my field, and will be contemplating the steps I need to take in order to get my masters degree before i'm 27. I have a lot of side issues going on at the moment, but if I wasn't on the right track career wise and academically, i'd be stressed out beyond belief. Sometime people need a swift kick in the ass in order to get themselves out of a rut. Nothing in life comes easy. Trying to figure out how to achieve dreams of success, and all that comes along with it (like family, shiny things, or recognition), doesn't mean she's going through a midlife crisis. I don't know...I get frustrated with laissez-faire attitudes that people seem to have about life. But then again, maybe if I chilled out for a bit once in a while I wouldn't need two therapy sesions a week. I don't know. =( Good luck Courtney. |

^ your absolutely right, I was worried when I was 19 and working with my dad in construction... As Rawb said alot of the time it doesn't matter what you do just as long as your passionate about it. I started the Robotics Program at BCIT when I was 19 without any research really. I just did it cause robotics interested me and turns out I had my first job offer before I even graduated. I've been working in my field for 6 years now while doing my Engineering degree part time and its all worked out really well and I love the stuff I do. My problem is I feel stupid if I don't take a few courses a year :)
I think the fact that your 20 and thinking about this is a good start, I honestly think that if you can't get into the classes you want, then look for places to volunteer or something like that. Volunteering is a great way to make connections. What type of schooling were you looking to do? EDIT: On a side note: I didn't do so hot in highschool either. I took Chemistry and Physics through gr 12 but barely passed math 11 and didn't take math 12. When I was working in construction I redid math 11 at my own pace in night school and got an A... I took my math 12 equivalency at BCIT before I started Robotics and now math is one of my strongest subjects. Don't let your grades get you down, you can correct those as long as you have the motivation to do so. Last edited by Leviathan; Mar 09, 05 at 08:41 PM. |
