hey courtney, i could change 2 or 3 things about your post and there you would have me.
i'm 20 in nov, work in a call centre, and same. its poopy but i think that i'm going to finish up what i have to and then find myself something i like doing, sometimes all it takes is a little motivation. (hard to find though..) good luck and... keep your chin up |

"follow the gord!!", "Give me your shoes!"
hey dont worry, im 23 and still have no idea what i want to be when all is said and done.
my ex's mom finished high school through a GED at 47, and is now in a office admin course...... its never to late. just try to keep as many doors open as possible... you might find you need them. |

you're *only 20*
I didn't have a clue what i wanted to do until i was 25 or later - sure I have a degree, but after 4 years, I found out that my major wasn't really something I want to do. I actually think it's better to take some time off after high school before doing post-secondary, cause you have a better idea of what you want out of your schooling. I spent my first 2 years in university partying and regret it now cause I could have been more diligent about classes. And like MissB said, you can always upgrade and re-take some of the requirements so that you can get into a program you like... |

Everything comes in time if you can keep yourself focused. It took me 27 years before I got my 'future's looking up' job.
I busted my ass doing construction for years but I knew I was meant for bigger and better things. I've finally got myself a great job at BC Children's Hospital making upwards of 26bones an hour. Don't get discouraged at all.... 20 is young and you have all the time in the world to figure out what you want to do with yourself. :) |

As mentioned before, find out exactly what you need to upgrade in order to get into the desired course. If the workload isn't too major, keep your job, and take classes that fit your schedule. Don't worry, I'm turning 22 in November and am in the same position +/- a few details. There are lots of "us" out there. It sucks, but you have to start somewhere, even if it is late. <--- finally understanding this.

just doing something is usually enough
night school, volunteering, intense hobbies things seem to fall in place as long as you're motivated the destination doesn't matter, because most likely you will get sidetracked into something similar or better don't worry courtney, if you stay positive things will work out for you |

You could be in school and doing more but have no direction and no drive and then it just becomes meaningless. If you don't have either, you're not really that successful!
Once you feel you really really know where you want to go, that's a good time to really take things by the reigns and go with it. In the meantime, a healthy attitude is going to be a lot better than calling yourself unsuccessful and trapped in your own unhappiness. You're young. What do you _want_ to do? |

I go to school with people who are in there late 20's who have just decided what they wanted to do.
My mom did 4 years of physio to decide she didn't like it after 2 years in the work field. Once you know you will know. Make Goals it helps you out lots. |

i'm experiencing the same thing sort of.
although i was doing my dream job but it wasn't all i thought it would be, and the industry i was in is filled with untruthfull bastards that repeatedly screwed me out of money. so now i've decided to do that as a hobby only. kinda sucks, leaves me a bit lost, but i'm slowly finding a path, it seems to be leading me to other, warmer countries! don't panic, i'm 21, and i keep thinking about how time is running out, but this thread made me realize that ALL GOOD THINGS COME IN TIME! keep on it and things will happen! |

You'll wake up one day when you're fortysomething and really, really regret taking that stance. :p |

i think most people go through what you're going through right now at some point in their life. do a search, i did a post like this round this time last year. the replies i hated the most were the 'don't worry you're still young' ones. 20 is young in the sense that you have 60 more to go, but i should have more too show then this. i'm 21 next month and i have nothing to show for, not even a job. everybody wants a good job and too make good money, courtney, but it doesn't come easily. i don't know what i want too do career wise, so the least i can do is make my parents happy and keep myself occupied...i start school in january of next year. you're working and making money that's a start. you can do better, and you want too do better and that's a start. |
