wow. that's pretty harsh. you don't see anybody on here knocking moses. what did jesus ever do to you? all he wanted from people was to be kind to one another thereby making this a better place to live. wasn't it moses who said "an eye for an eye"? |

DONT YOU EXCHANGE GIFTS ON PURIM TOO?

i apologize, you're right.
instead of fu jesus, i should say, fu jesus-following-people-who-have-turned-a-good-premise-into-a-shitty-pushy-religion. jesus would probably be horrified at some of the shit done under his name.. same with other religions.. but you don't see the muslims forcing me to fast during ramadan! That presents during hanukkah thing i think is a protocol designed by the Jews of Thornhill/Richmond Hill/York/other places as such to shut the yaps of their spoiled little princesses. I don't get presents for Hanukkah and neither does any other Jew I know.. ..then again, I don't know rich people. My family's from the ghetto, yo! And I mean the Polish WWII ghetto. |

AS IM SURE ANY CHRISTIANS WOULD BE BOMBARDED WITH JEWISH HOLIDAYS IF THEY LIVED IN ISREAL YOU JUST NEED TO MOVE, AT LEAST YOUR 'PERSECUTION' IS OUT OF LOVE AND YOU GET GIFTS. IT COULD BE SOMEONE KICKING YOUR ASS LIKE IN LESS TOLERANT COUNTRIES. |

well, this IS a christian based country (i'm probably going to get it from all the atheists after THAT one), so of course you wouldn't have muslim people forcing their fasts on you. if you were in a muslim country you might find things to be a bit different though. i've never been to a predominantly muslim country before, so i can't say for sure. |

i hate christmas cuz its an overly commercialized time of year where its expected to go and spend money on ppl whom you would normally not buy shit for. plus its over the top on the religiosity of it. my family wants to read the bible xmas morning before we open presents... PLUS... those lame songs are f'n ANNOYING!!!!
everyone says its all about the christmas spirit, but if we were all decent humans year 'round, there would be no need to get in the 'spirit' of christmas. cant people be nice and generous and all that all year rather than cramming it all in at the end of december? bah humbug, xmas... be nice all the time. |

That's exactly it though. It wouldn't bother me just about the holiday in itself. What bothers me is that I'm forced to participate in this meaningless consumerism. I would rather my family was totally religious and just read the bible and didn't believe in xmas presents, than being nonchalant about the religious aspect but steadfast on the buying shit factor.
I suppose next year I could just plan to be out of town. but then I'd probably get home and there'd be a stack of wrapped crap from everybody waiting for me to open. I just don't want to do this! I thought I'd have more autonomy over the holidays I chose to celebrate when I became an adult but obviously not. |

hey guys if you act angry all year then people don't try to push any rituals on you because they are too busy second-guessing themselves out of the fear you will point out how stupid they are
it is way less work than joining some minority religion that is perpetually surprised that everyone can't be different |

I don't give gifts at Christmas because I believe in Christ and that he Died for our Sins and that he's the Son Of God and all that shite. Frankly, Jesus probably wasn't even born on Christmas. Shephards wouldn't be minding flocks by night in the Winter in Israel. I give gifts because it's a good way to tell friends and family "This is what my last year has manifested for me." Whether it be an album I really dug, or a liquor I discovered this year, or clothes of a fashion I'm really feeling... It's an excuse, but it's a good one. Because who the hell doesn't feel shitty in December? The days are shorter, people don't know how to drive, going downtown is always crowded and a hassle, people in general are bitter all over, etc. etc. etc. Why not counterbalance it with celebrations and giving at the end? Frankly, I'm not Christian (even though I like a lot of Jesus' teachings) but I still celebrate this holiday not simply because it's expected of me, but because it gives me an opportunity to be nice to others. |
