You know, I don't watch TV, stay away from shopping malls, etc..
My goddamn OFFICE is covered in lights, beads, styrofoam snowmen, and.. there's a DOG-SIZED WOODEN REINDEER now plopped right in front of my desk. I can't take it anymore! you damn Christians trying to convert everyone to your holidays.. leave the Jew in the corner alone!!!!! Motherfuckin l'shanah haba'ah b'yerushalayim ALREADY! HAPPY HANUKKAH. |

I dont know if you heard the story about the jews asking for a manoura to be put in the airport since it was over christmas decorated... instead the airport desided to just take down all the christmas decorations and hav enothing up :(
Personaly I'm not a fan of the santas and other tacky christmas icons. However I do believe it is a great time to celebrate winter and the holidays. I love all the lights as it really brightens up everyones spirt in these dark, cold, rainy days. If your jewish or have a diffrent way of celebrating this time of year... I highly sugest and suport you decorating in your own culture/religion. I think ppl are just more into the spirt of decorating and have an excuses to celebrate, but feel like it can only be christmas decorating. I grew up in a complex with a lot of jews... my mom told me you coudl tell who was jewish becuase they either had just white or just blue lights up. They may not of been celebrating christmas, but we were all still celebrating th etime of year. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Dec 12, 06 at 10:56 PM. |

Although I'm not Jewish, I'm not a big fan of Christmas -- hate the crowds, hate all the stress/rushing around to get to parties, etc. associated with it.
BAH. :p PS: Illy -- Hanukkah starts this Saturday for you right? Eight days of presents for you? :) |

I like boxing day/week better almost, it's nice because you spend all this time going and shopping for other people while seeing tons of things you want for yourself and that is the time you can finally get them and usually at a fairly good price. I like treating myself for surviving all the craziness of family/busy work. |

the worst part is i HAVE to do christmas because i have a multi-religious family. my mom isn't even christian but she puts up a tree and does the present thing i think as a custom she adopted when she came to canada.
dad was much more scrupulous, took me to synagogue all through childhood, taught me the hebrew prayers and celebrated the holidays. so we always did hanukkah and christmas. but the more i've experienced well meaning "christians" in my life, the further repulsed i am from any kind of christianity, and i really wish that my family would LISTEN when i say, "I don't wish to do this holiday, I don't consider it part of my own life, so PLEASE DON'T BUY ME ANYTHING.. I"ll happily come to dinner but DON'T GET ME GIFTS.." ..you know what happens? They all get me shit and then I feel like an empty handed jackass. So I'm stuck perpetuating this bullshit consumerist cycle. fu jesus |
