my advise to you all, if you want to make sure that your atm card doesn't get skimmed, then don't use portable atm machines... thats all

it sucks, i have to cancel sometimes over a 1000 cards a day

those assholes deposit empty envelopes in machines then take out money. luckily they can only take a maximum amount should be $400-$500 unless you have no limits..

the only 'sketchy' machine i can think of is a debit machine inside of harbour center. the only others ive used have either been TD green machines or chevron machines.

i live in coq, but havent made a withdrawl outside of vancouver in ages. supp this withdrawal was from an atm in port moody.

yeah i have a limit, and luckily my savings are in a seperate non card account. but still, my insurance, etc is coming out today. such a fucking hassle.

^^ i'm pretty sure chevron's machines aren't authorized bank machines... and they are privately owned.. i'm surprised that police doesn't investigate enough to find out who the owners are and bust them....

it doesn't really matter who owns the machine you're using, you can still get fucked. skimmers have even turned up on machines INSIDE of banks. i worked for a financial institution one time so basically i'm an expert on this.

adam, is your bank covering the money for your insurance, or are you having to jump through hoops to avoid payments bouncing?

it is a shame that banks don't put in the same alerts that credit card companies do when strange activities are happening on your account.

^ive had to transfer funds, its not a huge deal, they even said that they'd waive my overdraft fee if needed.

they said it would take 2-3 weeks for the investigation to be completed.

i have taken money out before and not had the cash come out at the end and it takes the same amount of time to do the investigation.

banks are slow movers, but when you owe them money, is it sure a different story!

^^ Keep the majority of your savings in your Savings account and tell the bank to disconnect the account from your card. Transfer money out into Chequeing account online as needed, use credit card for larger purchases.

no, not really.. just don't use atm machines u don't know.. cash to go whatever they're called, the ones u find sitting in convinience stores, etc...

any credit union / bank would be safe

it's the portable atm machines that can be set to read your pin and your card numbers

or unless it IS an inside job.. employes. etc, then there's nothing you can do :(

Skimmers hit multiple atms with multiple copied cards before midnight and then again after midnight, usually going to 2 different atms.

They're very smart & organized.

I saw it on TV. :D
