Just as I buy Starbucks products, and may even be considered anti-Starbucks I fully oppose this so called infringement law-suit. ur right they ARE first nations people very observant. How ever its not because they have a tan, first nations people have been brutalized ever since europeans stepped foot on thier soil. First by raping and pillaging the villages,bringing various diseases and thus alot of innocent people died. Then came along residential schools where children that were sick with terburculosus were forced to sleep with children who were not sick BECAUSE THEY WERE AND I QUOTE "SAVAGES", then children as young as 4 years old were molsested by priests and beaten by nuns, some were even murdered, I read an article of one persons memory of residential school...he was playing in the yard and tripped over the body of his best friend :) When will native people stop being shafted by white people? let me give you some background. i heard about the law-suit when it began in the spring, and totally forgot about it for a few monthes, and just today i was looking on resist.ca and it said it was over. i'm happy. i posted about it before in a reply? on this site. so i updated here as well about the likes of haidabucks versus starbucks. that's about all i have to say.

starbucks does offer fair-trade coffeebeans. nobody buys it, it tastes RANK, and you can only buy 1 pound bags of it, but they have it.

What I really like about this small business coffee is the service, fair price, and the taste. I'll ask where they buy their beans so I can be morally gratified.

And Moon Pennies is rad, I used to buy coffee from them when I was 13.

you seem a little slow so I'll spell it out for you.

first off the "fair trade" shit really isn't that great a deal for the people picking the beans. their was a pretty decent article on it a couple months ago in the Georgia Straight and there's a lot of other resources out there if you look.

secondly, do you think Starbucks really gives a rat's ass about fair trade coffee? I'll answer that question for you: no. they're turning people's needs and concerns about how those who weren't fortunate enough to be born in the western world into profitable marketing pitch. try and walk into a starbucks and not trip over all the literature they provide you with about how hard they're trying to make the world a better place with their fair trade coffee. do you really wanna live in this world where caring is reduced to a commodity?

finally, yes not every locally owned coffee house buys their beans at a fair price. so who are you gonna support? the community owned coffee house that if it does well would probably be very open to supporting fair trade coffee? Or the faceless multinational corporation that rapes the developing world, tries it's damndest to coffee coffee prices down and continues to do their best to crush community based businesses? ultimately, change begins at home. supporting community based businesses and organizations is the quickest way to bring about global change.

if you don't care that's fine. you have the right not to care but please smash your keyboard over your head so I don't have to read inane opinions. furthermore, doing this may protect you in the future when new Bob says or does something that infringes on Starbucks' intellectual property rights.
