Adjusting to a new piercing
So I got my Monroe pierced yesterday yaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!@)#(&$&!@#*!)# ( Sorry, I'm clearly very excited about this!).
I haven't had this happen with other piercings unless they were painful to sleep with, but I think I woke myself up at least 3 times lastnight after brushing my hand across my face and wondering WHAT THE FUCK was on it. Including once at about 6:30 and I haven't been able to fall back asleep since. Oh well, it's a bitch but man was it worth it. I just thought I'd vent either way because I need my sleep Damnit! Now I just have to deal with the rest of my family getting used to it, <sarcasm>oh how i love their corny jokes and closed minded comments on the subject</sarcasm> |

Awe, Monroe's are awesome. I would get mine done if I didn't have a mole there already. My girl Shannon had hers done and it was awesome...she put a tiny diamond stud there. She eventually ended up taking it out cause it kept on falling out and was uncomfortable, but it looked wicked while it lasted!

You're lucky in a way Erica, one of the biggest reasons I got it done was because it resembles a beauty mark. I even got in on the left side because that's where Marilyn's was.
I was told that specific nose studs work well, plus they are tiny and often come in various shapes etc. Something like that might not stay in so well as you said, but it deffinately gives me a variety. I have my eye on a cute little star one! Thanks Krista, I think I may have gotten a guage too big for my facial structure though, at least when I'm "un-made-up". It does suit me well but it can take attention away from my other features unless they are emphasized as well ( I can't wait to utilize my newfound make-up skills and put some full on 50's makeup with it!) Lets just hope I dont have any problems with it too *crosses fingers* |

Thanks for the advice. I dont think I'll have a problem with cleaning it too much, I have such a bad memory that I dont remember to do shit like clean piercings as often as I should.
Then again, its on my face so it shouldn't be too easy to forget! |

What I found the most annoying was the length of the piercing bar to allow for swelling. After my swelling had gone down I kept fucking catching it on my teeth... now that it a bitch!!
As for using nose screws on it... iono man. Have you ever had your nose pierced? I find it's the most annoying piercing to get in and out. Not to mention nose screws are usually not made of surgical steel (especially ones you get at Spencer's gifts, ect.). You shouldn't put any kind of cosmetic jewellery into a new piercing for at least a month. Even then it all depends on how your body reacts to things like that. Clean your piercings morning and night but don't go Nazi cleaning on it and it should be fine. Any questions ask me... I've got my monroe, nose, vertical industrial, belly button and nipple done so I know a bit about it ;) |

Screws? are those the nose studs that have a hook like shape at the end? If so, thanks again for the advice :P I'll check out what I had my eye on, make sure its surgical steel because I've had problems with my ears in the past (my cartillage piercings still haven't heeled). I think I might be allergic to something in cosmetic jewlery so i'll be carefull with these nose things.
And I'm not putting anything in here untill it heals, unless of course I start catching it on my teeth then i'll be pissed! |

Thanks Cerah, she never mentioned anything about the watered-down listerine so thats great to know. And I've already been rinsing with sea salt even though it tastes like crap :( I guess my brilliant idea of using nose screws wasn't so brilliant. Oh well, I'll see if I can find some surgical steel ones, and I wasn't going to put anything new in until it healed properly. It would also be more of a one night or day, decorative thing if I ever did get it. Nothing I would wear often. I'm thinking of going down a guage when it heals, I also need a shorter post. |

<nods>
The longer post is only because your face swells. After the swelling goes down (a week to be sure) then you can change it for another post. See if the place you got it done at will do it for free... I know Next does that dunno who else does. You might as well go down a gauge when you downsizing the post so you don't have to buy so much jewellery. Personally I find the sooner you shorten the post the better (after the swelling's gone down of course). Mainly because it's easy to catch it on your teeth and it's a whole comfort thing. Nevermind the fact that you feel like a fucking idiot with this metal piece sticking straight out of your face. |

Ohhh! New piercing! FUN!
Everyone else has already given good advice and input. I'll just add my input. It will take a bit to get used to the piercing, but it'll become part of you in no time. When I first got my nose pierced, for WEEKS, I'd wake up in the morning, in the middle of the night, etc, and find that I had pulled my nose screw out. Without knowing I'd pull it out because I wasn't used to it. I quickly got used to it though. But I still have to take it out everyday when I wash my face because it pulls out. That's the downside to a nose screw, rather than a stud. The monroe would totally suit you! cute!! -desiree |

You know what! not many people can pull that off but i'm so sure you can.
When i had my septum done.. It swelled up.. and made the ring FLIP up and touch the tip of my nose.. it felt like i had a tiny bug on my nose all night.... then the second time.. it just HURT... all the time... so.. yeah Post pics of it! |

i'm still getting used to my lip piercing. i'm fine with it most times, the worst thing is eating. it's just a bit different, and i still can't eat anything i want. arg. a little frustrating at times, but nothing i can't deal with. hehe

^thanks! I've been told by numerous people that they don't usually like the monroe on everyone, that it only suits certain people and supposidly i'm one of them. So that's a relief!
It's doing fine so far, thankfully *knocks on wood* And the swellings gone down as far as I know, but the post length doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I think I have a fat lip. |

Whoah, I didn't even see all the other posts haha.
Des- Thanks for YOUR advice, by the sounds of it, a nose screw probably isn't the best idea. I can't believe you woke yourself up for weeks because of it, luckily that only lasted one night for me, I would have gone crazy. Miska, I should have taken a picture on new years damnit. I had my makeup all done up too, oh well I'll get one or I'll seee you sooner or later :P Lady, I guess you're talking about a job not allowing you to get a facial piercing. Well I dont have one right now so that wasn't stopping me, and well I'll just have to deal with the difficulty of finding a place to work at that will allow piercings (or figure out how to keep a retainer in without a black washer). The only thing holding me back for years was my mother, but now I'm 19 so she can't do shit! Lindsey, I think the labret would look great on you. And who cares if it's unoriginal, its not like the rest of you is lacking originality! |
