Fuck Translink

FUCK TRANSLINK!!

i wake up at fuckin quarter to eight this morning, just enough time to get ready beofre i have to catch my bus, but i fall back asleep (this part was completely my fault) but then i wake up at 9:15 and decide to call the fucking transilink to find out when the next bus leaves for my destination. but the for some fucking stupid reason (this part isn't translink's faul either) we have the wrong number for translink in our personal phone book. so i go to the website to work the shit out, but the schedules page takes an hour to load, and when it does, it says "server error" or some bullcrap like that, so i try it agin on IE instead of netscape, and it does the same thing. so i look the fucking hurtass translink number in the business pages, only to not find it. so i look in the white pages, find the number (finally) and ITS FUCKING BUSY!!! AN AUTOMATED FUCKING LINE IS FUCKING BUSY!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THE WORLD COMING TO????!!!!!! so i keep trying for like half an hour until finally some bitch comes on the phone and i say to her "i need to ask three questions. 1 - why the fuck is the website down? (at this point the bitch hung up but i kept going cos i care that little) 2 - why is an automated service line busy? and 3 - when does the next 154 leave braid station going towards 6th and 6th? i obviously got no answer considering the bitch hung up already (i guess the foul language scared her off) so i called back. luckily i was smart and asked when the next 154 came BEFORE flipping out and being hung up on, so now i know what bus i have to take BUT I MISSED THE FIRST THREE HOURS OF MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL THIS YEAR!!!! fuck you translink. i'll see you in hell........

Ok buddy, within the good "hour" that you were waiting for the godamn site to load as well as the good "half hour" that you waited to get through to the translink infoline you could have just walked to the busstop and waited for the bus to come yourself.
You had a good one and a half hours to make it down to the stop, but you decided to waste it by sitting infront of the computer or behind the phone waiting for some one to answer to your demands. If today was so important to you you should have planned your trip beforehand. If you're a regular transit-er you should know by now that transit isn't always on time, nor is it always reliable so it's your responsibility to make sure that your get to your destination on time

On busy days like today, where most students are heading back to school the phone lines as well as website are bound to be busy/slower.

NO sympathy.

You slept in and waited to the last minute to plan this..

maybe you should uh, plan ahead. I know you shouldn't 'have to', but if being in time for school is of so much importance, the obvious choice would be to plan ahead, n'est pas?

The automated phone system was probably busy because the website was down and people were trying the phone number instead. Just because its automated doesn't mean it has an infinite number of lines for customers to call in on. ;)

^That and there was some sort of problem with skytrain between King George and Scott Road this morning so people were probably flooding the phone lines and the translink servers.

i have had a lot of mean bus drivers... but time has never really been an issue. i usually just walk to the bus stop and wait. no matter what some bus is bound to come pick me up.

While I make no argument that he should have better overall knowledge of the schedule for his primary method of transportation, and he shouldn't have been taken by surprise that today was busy due to the return to school etc., I have to wonder at the above quote.

Really, is it all that surprising that Translink has to practically drag us out of our cars kicking and screaming when we accept statements like that as the norm? It seems like we treat poor service as a given - why is that? They (drivers, managers, etc.) often seem to treat their passengers more like cargo than customers - not only with schedules & reliability, but also with things like bus shelters that are like a stripper during act 2 - pretty to look at, but not much covering them.

Yeah it was probably so busy because King George station broke.

Scott Road was absolutely chaotic. People kept pushing and pushing to get inside the bloody train. The doors on the train I was on opened like 6 times.

The reality is that the public transportation system is sometimes unreliable. No one's saying that we should accept that as "OK", but we do need to accept that the problem exists and work out our day with that taken into consideration.

I do agree that the unreliability and poor service of any company should not be accepted as the norm, however, in his specific case there were things he could have done differently to make his day more effective, and I think it's pretty obvious from what he's admitted himself.

^^^ Hence my 1st paragraph, which you didn't quote.

Again, I know nothing is perfect or foolproof, but I've lived in other cities with service that was far more reliable overall. Translink's service is a joke, comparatively speaking.

omg im sitting here on the phone right now trying to get trhough to translink

i've been trying off and on since 4

im actually trying to plan my route ahead of time cause i either have to drive my car to work tomorrow and leave it there or take the bus if it leaves in time for me to get to work.

this is highly highly annoying that it hasnt rung once in 20 minutes though and i totally sympathize with his frustration

i waited (in the cold) 10 minutes for my bus today and 25 minutes for my skytrain. i was rudely told by the skytrain official to wait quietly or i would not be able to board when the train did arrive when i asked if delays were expected to continue the rest of the day...

all i wanted to do was plan my way home!

yeah for being late for work even though i left early in anticipation of the delays :y:

I used to get so much late slips in N-Dub that after i got my 3rd, i just hang around at home until 10 mins before block B before i head to school. I didn't want to get a detention so i missed the class completely instead. It's o.k though, cause it was just Drafting. :kam:

Proving my point exactly...they are ultimately a service but hardly act like one...

Its not like today was a particularly dreadful day for driving...cold, sure, but the roads themselves were fine...

Yeah, maybe the guy was having a bad day, maybe its a tough job, blah blah blah...if U can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen...I'm sure lots of cabbies working crazy hours for way less cash would snap those jobs up in a heartbeat...

Its not just the front line either...poor decisions at the top only serve to fuel poor morale...

translink is shitty, unless you live in vancouver. simple as that.

you can plan ahead all you like, but having to be an hour early for a bus that SHOULD come every 20 minutes is totally unreasonable.

i still think cheez could've just left and waited for the bus, his mistake and he missed the classes.. they do need improvements though. the schedule portion of their website has barely worked for the past month.
