honestly i say that sort of thing to people often when I notice it but not as an insult and rather because I care about people and their well-being.. esp. my co-workers/friends.. so instead of taking that as an insult, one can think of it as someone being perceptive enough or caring enough about you to notice how your day is going.. sometimes that's just a way for someone (ie-myself) to say "wanna talk about it?"

but otherwise, some people just like to point out the fact that some people look like shit, and nothing more.
