an interesting point about this: in italy we can´t drive until we are 18 and 3 or 4 months ( time to get the drivers licence), we can buy porn at 18, we can join the army at 18, but we can get legally as drunk as we want to be at 16, which leads also 13, 14 year olds in some bars or also clubs if they are older looking girls. Tobacco also 16, but there are wending machines, which are open from 10 pm until 7am ( useless new law, cause on sunday almost everything is closed and in the afternoon it is almost impossible to get smokes... )

The reason that people under the age of 19 are not allowed to drink despite ability to handle other responsibilities has nothing to do with the ability to handle other responsibilities.

Very simply, the 19+ drinking limit is because your body is STILL DEVELOPING until around that point. Drinking can cause stunts in development and complications can arise. It's the same reason you don't want to drink when you're pregnant (Why is it that everybody assumes that the results of FAS are all of a sudden null once the baby leaves the womb?).

And the snarkier, more condescending thing is: I DON'T WANT A BUNCH OF 16 YEAR OLDS HANGING AROUND WHILE I'M AT THE BAR. One of the reasons I go to clubs a lot more and stuff like raves a lot less is because I'm getting tired of a 15 year old 200lb girl with "Hottie" written across her shirt telling me how high she is.

secondly dont think school dances are so innocent,.. i hate going to them because they consist of 14 yr olds grinding and pretty much humping other guys. and they are wearing barely any clothing[including the fat chicks]. i like to dress "hot" or "appealing" but that doesnt meen my tits need to be hanging out. sure i do grind. with my bf but not like they do . and i am not that young. also a majority of the people are drunk. just like last time i went there. and then theres crap about people making up crap about others and telling the principal that lie.

Anyways, no matter what you try and claim about being different from other under-ager's (whether it's maturity, sobriety, responsibiliy etc.) the fact is that you're still underage, and therefore we (those of age) don't want you in the club. Does this make us complete assholes, and life unfair? Maybe...or maybe it's because you feel exactly the same way about people younger than yourself.
