uuhhh.... if you mean what does Doom listen to the most while sleeping, then it would have to be Freezepop. In fact, Doom listen to Freezepop all of the time, they are so perfect and tasty, much like their namesake.

It's kind of weird, but I notice that a lot of the hugest names in commercial rap are totally overrated

to name a few- 50 cent, obie trice, ma$e


I'm sure lots of people would beg to differ, but a lot of these artists just have good production going for them, and not much else.

ya i dont listen to west coast gangsta rap because the lyrics are really cool even though they are pretty bad ass its all about the beat and phat bass lines rap is all about the producer.

yeah 50 cent and obie trice are seriously over-rated. they dont really live up to their hype at all.

i think 50 cent is a shitty mc... as with most commercial hiphop he is sold and hyped up on his image and not his skills. i definately respect the guy as a business man but not as an artist.

the ones who immidiately come to mind are Howie Day, Sondre Lerche (hehe!), Josh Martinez, Sage Francis, and Devia 3.

I'm not so sure about rappers. Even the ones that don't get recognized much by the masses (Del, Guru, etc.) still get recognized by their peers.

However, if we delve into the realm of EDM:

Oliver Lieb - Best trance producer. Period. Problem is the has so many aliases (L.S.G., Spicelab, The Ambush, to name a few) that hardly anyone realizes it.

Banco de Gaia - Toby Marks constantly flys under the radar because he doesn't even see himself as all that involved in the 'rave' scene. However, this guy's amazing when it comes to mixing up electronic and organic sounds. The Pink Floyd of EDM.

Erol Alkan - One of the most exciting DJs to come out of Britain in recent years. Think what you might get if you mix DJ Z-Trip with 80's punk attitude.

Peter Benisch - Also records as FPU, his releases on Turbo have been nothing short of astounding. Falling maybe into a bit of the realm of electro but he borrows from every single style of EDM to create some of the most original sounding tracks I've heard in the last two years.

Anyhow, these are my four picks for the criminally overlooked. Anytime I ask someone if they've heard of them, I get blank stares. However, whenever I play said person a sample, they become instant fans and want more. One can only hope the word spreads. ;)

i have NO idea why this guy isnt a huge superstar yet.. if you put his creative lyrics together with beats from the neptunes or something you'd have an unbelievable album... although not to say that his previous work isnt unbelievable (deltron3030 -> amazing)
