MUX Live-PA @ The Caprice, Feb 25th!

(cross-posted in "Simply Music")

Performing before delighted audiences in some of Canada's top live venues (including the Commodore Ballroom and the Vancouver Planetarium), MUX tries to break the common idea that live performance electronic music is 'some guy on stage with a laptop'. Taking musical influence from early-90's UK acid house, lessons from the hardest of modern Swedish techno and an intimate knowledge of analogue synthesis and electronic sound hardware, MUX has created his own unique style. Flowing and rhythmic, organic and captivating, stompy and danceable, MUX weaves complex patterns into a soundscape that can only be described as live rave techno.

MUX Live-PA Set at "Sparky"

On Wednesday February 25th, 2004, I will be performing a one-hour set of live rave techno at the new clubnight "Sparky". DJ Lace, James Brown and Eric Lewis have teamed up to make a very promising new clubnight on Wednesdays at the Caprice - this posh new upscale club now drops the pretensions for one night a week to showcase the best of Vancouver's up-and-coming live electronic talent! The two performances so far (Jay Tripwire, aka "Mr. Barcode" and Fish aka "Transgress" (also known as "Koolatron" and "1/3rd of Inject")) have been *excellent* - and just as a reference point, the week prior to THAT, the venue was the site of Richie Hawtin's "Closer" tourdate forVancouver. The soundsystem is amazing, the people are cool, the drink specials are... well, ok, they're acceptable - but most importantly, the techno is awesome! Everyone I've talked to says that Sparky could become the big, friendly, great location, great music, unpretentious clubnight for 2004.

I've been working really hard on the live set, integrating the newsampler/sequencer (see news item #3) and practicing every night. This will be the best MUX set to date! Given that it's a Wednesday, and I know some of you have work or school in the morning, I've decided tostart my set earlier so that more people can enjoy it. I recommend that you come pretty early though, as the DJs are world-class, spinning progressive, tribal and tech-house. I will be performing an hour-long set starting at about 11pm. Come out and support the Vancouver live electronic music scene - bring your friends and dancing shoes!

Cover is only $5!

Once again - Wednesday, February 25th, at the Caprice nightclub, 967 Granville Street, Vancouver. Just take a bus or skytrain to Granvilleand walk up a few blocks, it's on the west side of the street - you can't miss the big blue vertical "CAPRICE" sign. :)

See you there!
