From Monet... To Dali exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
I know many of you have already heard of this exhibit. I am just curious as to how many of you plan to go? or have already been? and what did you think of it?
Favorite pieces? I am very excited for this exhibit and will go as soon as time permits! I would just like to know your thoughts. |

Honestly, art lovers, especially those who appreciate the impressionist/post-impressionist/surrealist movements must definitely go.
I don't think the VAG has had or ever will again have such a great collection of artwork displayed within its walls. I think the only reason why the VAG was blessed with these pieces is because the Cleveland art gallery was undergoing renovations. I've seen all the main exhibits at the VAG, including the Matisse and the Picasso, and those exhibits did not even COMPARE to what was displayed at this amazing exhibit. Usually, the VAG only gets minor pieces, like sketches.. but very few key paintings. This exhibit had all the great artists you would never imagine to see at once within the walls of the VAG - Dali, Renoir, Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, Tissot, Modigliani (sp?) Parmigiannino. I never used to think too highly of artists such as Renoir, until i realized that seeing their works in picture and in person are completely different experiences. I realize that paintings have so much more impact when you are face to face with it's size, the glimmer of oil against the light, the true depths of its colors, and the texture of paint. This is really an opportunity Vancouver won't likely ever get again in the near future, so I highly encourage art lovers to go. |

the VAG doesnt bring in the best shows all the time, but their own collection is fabulous, they need to release their vaults more and let people see what they got.
as for the show, i pushed a little old lady to the side when i spotted mondrian across the gallery floor. the show is rediculous, even if you know nothing about art, you will learn so much just by seeing this show. MONDRIAN. the degas sculpture was beautiful. i was completely overwhelmed by the whole show, fucking rodin always blows my mind. and my favorite gauguin painting "in the waves" was there. i like to think that gauguin time traveled and painted it of me. |
