or you can just use Deoxit Faderlube.
recommended by all the top manufacturers. Rane, Eclectic Breaks Pro X Fader. anyways. I picked up the faderlube. Broke into my mixer took apart the faders, Cleaned up the factory residue on the rails and board with 70/30 water/alcohol mix. a few Q-tip whipes and papertowel whipedowns later. Lube the board and the rails with Faderlube and its smooth as butter, its really kinda sick how slick it is. I'm still trying to get used to is as i've been using an SK2 for so long and the faders on that arent as smooth since i havent lubed it ever. only just cleaned it. |

how is the Xfade? did u have to order it or does anyone locally sell em?
I compared the faders in the 07 pro and the SK2 the Rail arrangement is a bid different and seems like the top plastic part on the SK2 rails are too tight on the top rail so it makes a scrapping sound and there is a mild friction or something. because even after a thorough cleaning and faderlube. Its still not as smooth as the 07 faders cuz the Plastic that goes on the Rails is much better and doesnt make much contact also there is a Metal Lip that protects the rails from Dust getting in. The Stanton SK2 is a tank. I've had it since early 2000 its from the first batch that was Focus Fader compatible. hows the Xfade compare to the focus fader? |

yeah - i bought up as many sk2s as i could - only one went sideways on me (the sk2dltd which i just loved). the focus fader meh, i find it too flimsy - great concept but just too abrasive would be the better term.
i had to order the xfade, and popped it right in. So basically if you wanted to drop a PCV in this is what I do... Of course you don't have to go as far as I do - but this has ensured me success everytime of modding a pcv. snip bottom metal piece connecting to circuit board of jacket - its just a ground, dont worry about it, its about as big as a blotto of acid. when you can look inside at the rails you want to get a hex key to take the mechanism off, its a pain in the ass sometimes as they make it super tight. once you get it off take some serious shears/snips and cut half the metal off the bottom. Grb some gunoil from wallymart either use your fingers or a lint free brush for cleaning tape heads, and put a small amount on the rails. it'll feel sticky but don't worry about it. its a good opportunity to clean the dust off the metal protector now. . usually this is where I use tuner control spray, but you could use your deoxit lube just fine here, give it a quick spray - dont worry about it getting on the carbon pieces. it'll sort itself out. put back together, take the cf faceplace from the sk2 and swap it with the pcv's, the only tricky part is well you can either resolder the middle two pins on the crossfader cable in the sk2, or just hit the hamster switch and deal with the different coloured lights :) newer pcv's have a small switch on them - test it with the fader out just to make sure you have it right, if you fucked up only one side will work. little bit of a trick to get the fader in - probably should turn the mixer off when you try to get it in, but i've kept it on and live during a radio show when my fader fell off inside the unit and had to do a live replacement, it wont short anything but if yer paranoid. screw em back in and you've got a rockin crossfader. the ups are very similar - if i recall you can't use 05's or 06's in the sk2 - i have only bothered to mod the ups on one of mine and am happy with the alps faders they came with - they are easy cleanable, and provide an ok tactice feel - once you get rid of the goddamn knobs. i've new moved over to a digital environment and selling 2 of my modded sk2s (keeping my favoite one for spare). not happy with the curves and feel of the vestax vci-100 as a mixer so we'll see what i can come up with. |

Gun oil is handy if your in a pinch. It's light and good to use on the rails. Tuner control spray is more of an "emergency" type product to use. You don't want to use it too often otherwise it will eat the carbon tracks of the fader overtime.
