So Linux is no good, Vista sucks and XP is ancient. What ever happened to using the proper tool for the job?

Why would you be willing to use linux but not OSX?

I wish linux would team up with a top DAW comany and make a daw specific os with streamlined operation to the specifc DAW application, and vst.

If you don't know how to right click on a Mac, I have no idea how you expect to use a Linux box.

Mac's have had right click for several years(since 10.1 for sure), you just need to plug in a two button mouse, stay away from those original imacs with the puck mouse.

Who needs that right click business....KUHTRL is all you need (Im just old fashioned, windows mouse does in fact work though, swimmingly)

Just get a fuckin' Mac, man! In almost a year, I've had to restart my Macbook less times I can count on one hand.

Um, macs have had right-click since OS9. They just didn't come stock with more than single-button mice until the last couple of years.

ah the mac argument is a good then then, except i just bought this computer few months ago for school. Just recently decided to use it as a daw for at least a year, maybe 2. I didnt want the resource sucking vista on it but thats how it came. As soon as I get a new tv I'm gunna throw linux on the ps3 and see if it runs ardour. Has anyone tried using ardour yet?

I think this site is sponsored by google, which in turn is sponsored by many computer companies, apple included. But I'm pretty sure nobody at apple has direct control over the content though.

I think you'll find on most music forums they'll mostly say macs for production. It's generally considered a good industry standard.

Not saying you won't do badly with a windows machine but most people if they're serious about it tend to prefer working on a mac after getting used to it anyways.

Go to any music based forum, you will hear the exact same thing. Altho some producers do run virtual machines for special linux gear.

Most of the stuff that's out for linux kinda seems limited to Amiga-style tracker programs (before mp3s there were mods) which are essentially glorified sample sequencers (mostly based off FastTracker 2). At least that's what I've been able to wrangle up.

Ardour looks interesting. Downloading now.

Audour looks pretty dope. The only problem is you have to spend time writing code(?) to run vst's.

I would like to get away from windows one day if they can't sort it out. I hope to build/buy a new daw in the near future. Right now Live is kicking some butt for me, and I was a skeptic, and I love it now after getting a grip on it.

great find guys! I thought I was mostly on the up and up when It came to DAW based music.
