don't use reason unless you progamming in it and then re-wiring it, it has a sound and any one with trained ears can hear it from miles away.

Reason's fine on it's own. load in your OWN drum sounds, samples, and synth sounds. People who rely on the Reason sound banks fall prey to the allmighty 'reason sound.'
Agreed, I only program with Reason. Seems the way to go with it. Looking forward to getting more comfy with cubase. Think I'm gonna smoke one and read the manual this weekend. |

The reason sound comes from the mixer and the math it does summing the signals in the master bus. Reason definately has a dull kind of small sound, even rewiring you can still tell it was done in reason. As long as it comes out of that mixer youll get that sound. Same with an SSL expensive mixer. Has a certain sound from the summing.

Tests have been performed already in this regard, but for reason its common knowledge that it has a distinctive sound. Do a comparison if you like, theres many schools of thought on the audio forums. After using Pro Tools and Ableton Live and Cubase listening closely at tracks ive done in each (without using reason sound bank) Wave files in all, its easy to tell theres a "sheen" on the sound when it comes to reason. Doesnt mean you cant make a good tune in reason you just have to be aware of the mixer. So yeh Cubase sums better and has the huge benifit of using VSTs that are capable of up to 64bit internal precision. As a result you get a bigger clearer sound.
