Car guys: corolla GTS vs. 240 vs. Rx7 vs. Mr2
Ive basically narowed it down to 4. gts/240/rx7/mr2
I have found a mint example of all 4 locally actually, its such a tough choice just thinking about it ! sold my civic, time for RWD. anyway, I drove this GTS.. gun metal, act racing dual friction clutch, supra rims, rear wheel posi, 218k, very smooth and handled great. FUN!! but not super powerful (Id most likely do a swap later) Drove a mint mr2 193k, lowerin techniques drop, mags/low pros, nice sound sys, supercharged, smoooooothest gearbox/tranny outta all of them.. sometimes 3rd grinds/5th pops out on older mr2s but this one not a chance. definitely was the fastest (rx7 was NA so..) rx7.. NA is a nice car, but can need rebuilds after like 100k, this one was all stock 130km. T2s are fun as hell .. hefty gas bill though. 240.... driven a few .. nice cars for sure, just seem a bit .. heavy and not very fast? sr20det swap would be dope though. which one would you choose? |

mr2, especially since it is supercharged
gts can be fun, but like you said they are slow. if you get that, just keep putting money into making it turn better. rx7 isnt worth it unless turbo 240 will be the newest car, but that's all it has going for it.... and at this age it isnt even a big deal sounds like you know what you're doing and looking for on all the cars so go with the mr2. it'll be useless compared to the others (2 seats, shit cargo capacity), but aside from that there is no reason not to pick it. i thought of picking one up as my 2nd car instead of my shitty mazda, but i like having lots of space to haul stuff. <--- '85 supra owner |

the mr2 was so beautiful to drive.. so easy to make perfect shifts. the clutch is brand new too. car stuck to the road like glue. I really don't like the styling (and its white) but I kno a guy with a spray gun, can always paint it black. who cares about looks anyway!
just worried a bit about practicality, I like to go snowboarding a lot.. then again I can always greyhound it haha BTW the mr2 was 87, the GTS 87, 240 90-92, rx7 88 old yeah, but fun. |

i havent been looking at prices of anything for the past couple years, but you can probably pick up a mkiii turbo for not too much more than you would a newer s13. the mkiii was built from 86.5-92. came with a 3L I6 and the turbo is 220hp i think. headgaskets like to go on the turbo engines, they are fairly reliable aside from that(it IS a toyota). they had lots of cool options, but are considered the piggy of the supra generations because they are over 3400lbs. i own a mkii which was built from 82-86. those can be had for very cheap (especially the rusted ones) because no one really cares for the cars anymore. a decent example will still run somewhere above $3k i think. in the end, a supra is definitely an option.... but i'd also love an mr2 and the only downside you have to live with is the practicality of only 2 seats and no real trunk. i thought of adding an mr2 to my lineup as a third car, but decided i'm buying a bike. mr2's also have a pretty good following here. i think their main forum is bcmr2.com Last edited by shiki; Sep 21, 06 at 10:01 AM. |

Wow I haven't posted on here for ages...
Jordan just get a truck and be done with it hahaha. Then when I come to the island we can go boarding. =) Take it from me who has a fast car, most of them are money pits!! My car would not be on the road today if dad hadn't paid some of my repair bills. Either get something cheap and reliable or get a truck. Even though my car is fast I never drive all that fast, I can't afford any more tickets. *shrug* |

In terms of looks i love the old 240's. Heres an example of my friends.
http://photos.friendster.com/photos/...149572548l.jpg But if it really came to to it i would be very tempted to say rx7. those things are a beast. Lots of problems do arise from this car but its still sick. its a toss up as i like the 240, gts, and the rx7. definately not mr2 though i hate that car with a passion |

I have an n/a rx7 im gona repair and put up for sale, the reason im selling it is because its too much of a gas guzzler and I dont want to deal with the maintenance anymore. Otherwise, yeah theyre good cars, I took mine to 220kmh, redlining at 9grand, and it still purred like a kitten afterwards.

jaraul, yeah the rx7 seem to guzzle gas hella, I need somethin a bit better. im still leaving the 240 into the equation, there are things I like about them.. |

What about older 2002/3 Series BMW's or 190E from Mercedes. They are just as fast and you should be able to find better deals since Japanese brands have a large premium in the lower mainland. They are RWD, 4 seats imported and handle good. Just a thought if you don't want to follow the crowd.

ya, they are notoriously unreliable rx7 will also be less reliable than the toyota and get poor gas mileage, but they are sexy looking and everyone who owns one loves them the 240 is still a good choice as well.... there's a reason there are so many of them on the road i still say that mr2 is the top choice, but i am a toyota fanboy |

Too bad you can't import a 95 lol
has to be 1991 or older. not sure if Im sold on skylines yet, my buddy just imported one.. and he's spending out the ASSSSS to keep that car going. 2 grand in repairs right off the bat. car wouldn't even boost past 4k rpms either, got that fixed. now the fuel cuts out randomly.. we'll just be cruising and GLUG GLUG the gas just cuts out and comes back in and makes the whole car jump. SKETCHY!! he may have just got a lemon though, it just seems odd so many ppl are importing skylines then putting them in the buysells right away *I know its for profit too* but I dno.
