Underground is something that's hidden from the cops. It goes all night, has several dj's, and wicked people who just want something a little different to do. It doesn't matter who finds out. People are so pretencious anyways that all it takes is 1 bad comment to make some random person decide not to come. But the more the merrier as a packed house is always more memorable.
Was any at SHOCK Record Tour in 2000? Good grief. Even back then people said raves aren't like they used to be. That outdoor show was FUN though! 3 tents, a field covered in mud, and tons and tons of people. I remember trying to get on the shuttle bus outside of splash down. My friend cynthia got crushed between a 1000 ravers and the bus. Poor bus driver. And it was so rowdy when everyone got on. And everyone was silent and tired for the ride back to our cars. Good times. I even remember the visuals that were being projected on the tents! it was like... national geographic footage of bugs doing stuff. like mating, eating one another and doing their daily stuff. *sigh* memories. |

I think the3 word you guys are looking for is permitted....
If it has permits than the cops can't shut it down... If it doesn't than they have the "option" to shut it down. But that doesn't mean that they will. We threw an Underground Outdoor in SF underneath highway101. Cops showed up music stopped, cops left game on!!! |

Personally i prefer the larger venue's. Reason being its CLEAN. Hate all you want, but a non-sticky floor is great. Mind you some of most interesting parties i've been to have been in weird spots. Thanks AgroDave for the different venues. :D I'll be honest I miss Plaza Of Nations and PNE venue suxs. Some of you should check out a party in Seattle. They use a football stadium, it's great. -Tim |

I don't agree that "underground" should mean illegal. To me, underground means out of the mainstream, or as G3N3R4L put it, outside the commercial mainstream. As it happens, being non-commercial usually ends up being without permit, illegal in the eyes of the law. But I don't see how having a permit absolutely prevents it from being shut down. If the cops want to shut it down bad enough, and they can find a reason... of course I've never heard of that happening myself, and if there is no permit it's obviously a lot more likely that everyone will be sent on their way. And warehouses, well, I think I've been to three (unfortunately few), of which two were in such venues. But speaking of AGROCulture, I was fortunate to attend a swell and memorable party back in Feb 2003 in a laser tag facility. That was a most wicked venue for electronic beats! And when I walked into a room upstairs, Ill-Esha was on the decks and the on mike. Ever since I've been totally hooked on her style of DnB and that passion began at an underground. So nov 25th, I was working in Victoria :( how did it go? |

I've been to plenty of underground shows the cops have been to. Usually they're responding to a noise complaint and want to just make sure there aren't any 15 year olds tweaked out on drugs (a sure-fire way for your illegal-but-still-mainstream party to get busted, I find) and that everybody's being safe (fire codes not violated, proper facilities available, not squatting, etc.). If the cops were there, does that make it all of a sudden a mainstream rave? #### no. Especially if the promoter was smart enough in advertising it so that tweaked out 15 year olds DON'T make it in (so that if the cops show up, they can be all "Oh, we're just having a private party" and they tend not to bat an eyelash). So try again. Legality does not imply whether something is "mainstream" or "underground". Ish had a great definition: Underground are things YOU have to find. Mainstream finds you (insert soviet russia joke). Anyways. The underground shows are still happening, still kicking and still tweaked-out-15-year-old-free. And as long as they aren't advertised to your typical suburbanite raver Apex crowd (*coughFNKcough*) it'll keep happening. |

If your promoters arent dicks and know how to handle the cops.. chances are they're not going to shut them down.
I assisted in throwing the first solstace soundlab party thingie in the wack with akeel and some other people. We had a huge setup, pumping acid techno in the woods. Had about 100 people there, cops came as more people were coming in. The original promoter was too high on drugs to talk to the pigs. My friend and myself chatted with them, they realized we were good people with good intentions. Let the party go on and they were really impressed with the huge setup we had. Bigger than most stages at apex. |

Fuck 1 checkpoint, what about 3 checkpoints, 98 style. I remember sitting talking to the check point guy at mcdonalds at main and terminal and him saying 'you got a long way to go bud' haha. I remember the first rave I ever went to was completly underground, never forget the feeling of not knowing what the hell was going on the whole time.
edit: or how about the random event cell phone numbers you got, and you got some guys answering machine giving details of the 1st checkpoint. I remember once my friends and I were super stoked about this thing we heard about and we managed to get a cell phone number for the event. We phone it and it's like - 'hey this is john, leave as message..' damn. edit2: wow, i'm old.. Last edited by firestar; Dec 06, 06 at 10:18 PM. |

anyone want underground info SMSd to their phone a couple days before the event goes down? We're trying to build a nice list of people so we can start tossing more undergrounds effectively.
Check out http://vanmob.com . Planning to toss flashmob type parties every month or so. Requires the SMS for entry, but you can bring two friends. PM me for the password. We'll be using this to send out the venue information for Swift NYE party too. High Tech bitches. |

Even though it's "known" about these lands...
Clark and Hastings?... do parties still happen at that venue? The last one I was at there was Rise of the Drums.. such a sick space... Does anyone know anything about the goings on of this place?.... |

it was rumored for awhile that there was competition between different promoters doing underground shows, and the competition would call the cops on them after getting inside info regarding the venue.
Or retarded chicks thinking they are going to die from taking speedy pills and calling the ambulance. |
