Undergrounds
Has this fad died? Are people not willing to buy tickets to a party where they don't know where it'll be at (location TBA)? Or are promoters scared to throw illegal raves now? Is it because of the cops or is it because it's not profitable and people won't go? Are we stuck with Maritime and Riverside only because people are scared of the unknown? Do you guys even remember when promotion companies had infolines or check points?? God I miss those days and the excitement.

I've only been to a few underground shows, but all of them have been fun. I think the cops busting them up has been what's killed the underground scene for sure. I also think genres that you used to see mainly at undergrounds only (speed garage, dnb, etc.) are now at legal events as well.
I say, someone's gotta bring back the underground for sure, because I definitely miss it. |

There was one I was at in a 1950's abandoned slaughter house... the dust was so thick everyone was wearing a mask, I was blowing black snot outta my nose for a good day. Another one was a few years ago in the back of a underground parking lot... surprisingly, it didn't get busted by the cops... craziness |

I remember going to undergrounds years ago. All you had was a piece of paper with a number on it and sometimes the name of the party. Half the fun was just finding, and getting to, the venue. :)
Sure there may be undergrounds now, but I think they probably cater more towards certain musical genres such as goa or hardcore or something along those lines. (I'm just making assumptions here, so if I'm wrong sorry) |

^ I went to an underground goa party last year for new years. It was alot of fun. the people were so awesome. I loved how most of them wore no shoes and had black light reflectant body paint...awesomeness! I miss the whole underground scene and the whole routine of calling the info line.
EDIT: for Angel |

if it's info lines you guys want.. then go party on the island.. it will cost you less to take the ferry there and back and have a blast then to pay $150 or more for a mainstream party here
average ticket prices on the island usually go for $20-$40 and usually cheaper with mainland ID even cheaper for the real underground ones where you can get in for $5-$10 at the door but i've been out of that loop for so long i don't even know when or if they still go on anymore (though im sure they do) |

I think people just think the rave scene sucks now a days. And it sorta does if you enjoy the thrill of discovering the party's venue. Omega is so right, first it was Raverside that promoters overplayed (like a hit tune on z95) and now it's the bunky Maritime. Sigh. Can someone PM me information as to where I can find more undergrounds? Breakbeats are my poison =) But I guess it's all word of mouth when it comes down to it. And there are so many puds out there (as marty mentions) that can ruin the rep of a party with their non-sense comments. I want to throw an underground (on November 25! msg me about it! heh heh) and when I ask my old school raver friends sure they're interested because it's UNDERGROUND, but they don't do drugs anymore *sigh*. So I guess we gotta introduce something new to the formula to liven up what used to work! I'm on it Adam. |
