I don't really think I'd consider Edge to be a 'high speed' network not compared to T & B's EVDO, Roger's doesn't have anything that compares yet in terms of speeds.
That being said, Roger's is still testing its own highspeed network HSDPA which will probably launch soon, and then it'll kick ass..Roger's always gets the sweetest data devices. |

makes sense, wouldnt wanna rogers roam in other countries.
edge is good, but evdo is head and shoulders better. also rogers has archaic data plans as well which is the biggest pissoff. for most shit i do edge is fine, bandwidth wise, especially with the berry enterprise server between the device and the internet. but evdo + a laptop link would be pretty bliss. |

^why would you want wifi? how does the lack of it make the device useless?
if you want a 'OMG i have a PC in my pocket!' get something that runs palmOS or windows media. After struggling with it for a year let us know how your new blackberry is. :D Last edited by rawb; Oct 30, 06 at 02:08 PM. |

Reason's it's "useless" - my phone can already do everything that the pearl can do but mine has a *much* better camera...
Reasons for WiFi: #1 cut costs on surfing, e-mail, etc. #2 cut cost on phone calls by making calls on VOIP or SKYPE (probably more of a near future type thing) Last edited by dj_soo; Oct 30, 06 at 03:42 PM. |

i honestly think that Canadian carriers are afraid of Wifi cause they realize that VOIP w/ wifi-enabled devices are going to make cell phone plans obsolete in urban areas (where universal wifi will probably be a given within the next couple of years).
Why go on a costly plan when you can just pay a flat fee, have unlimited calls and long distance (and no roaming when you go to other cities with wifi). |
