Thoughts On Afganistan...

Well im sure that at first look you can see from my avatar that I have chosen to serve our country in the Canadian Forces. I was just like everyone else on the bord who loves there music, just that Ive always wanted to give back to a country thats been so good to me growing up. So this past year and a half ive been training to go to Afghanistan in Feb of 07. Now dont get me wrong i know the type of flameing this type of a post can attract, but i would like to hear what you think about whats going on there.. Do you feel you know what is going on with the war? Do you think Canadians should be there? I myself had no idea the type of turmoil Afghan was in before I joined the CF. You may not agree with whats going on, but do you support your troops?

Engineer. Work with the infantry sometimes... Like for room breaching and any tasks that need explosives.

Interesting.

I've thought about joining from time to time but i don't think i'll ever follow through with it. I wanted to join because of hearing stories of my grandfather and great grandfathers joining up in time of war. But this being a differant situation i wasn't sure if it was a good idea and after talking to some people about it i've bin talked out of joining.
I personally don't know enough about the situation over there to know how much good our troops are doing, or if it's worth the loss of Canadian life.

Good luck to you over there though, engineering seems like a good field of service to be in.

The insurgency has stepped up a lot since Canada changed it's mission in Afghanistan. The country is torn from the old cold-war proxy battles. Russia could not win the state over and was forced to withdraw and back a puppet government before the rebels and taliban took over. There's a lot of mishandling going on over there. Insurgents cross the boarder from pakistan and it's getting worse.

My thoughts are that you should reconsider exactly what serving your country means in this situation. Morally, that is.

^Props

Well i do feel the need to go to Afghan. Not because I have been 'brainwashed' but because growing up i never had to worry about wether or not i would make it to school ok. I never had to worry about a landmine while i was playing with my friends. We live in one of the best countrys to live in, in the world. And im sure we have all seen the ads on TV to send away your money to help kids in far off countrys less fortunet then we. But I could never send money away not knowing what it was doing... So i joind the army to do the work of the people.

War has torn Afghanistan for years. It was run by warlords after the vast drug supply the land is ideal for, feilds of weed and poppys riddle the country side. The Taliban government ruined a country. 35% of Afghans did not live past the age of five and they opress women. Women are dirty to the taliban and only used as means of reproduction.

I dont know about you but i value my life. Infact i value life so much that I am willing to put it on the line directly for someone I do not know on the other side of this earth, but indirectly for our familys here at home. You never know what can happen. To this day Canada has not seen a terrorist attack, and i would like to keep it that way. You may say that afgan isnt our fight, but look at the quality of life we all have and think, dont we have an obligation to at least help our fellow humans have the same?

Yes sure i am an Obvious troll... Take a look at the date i joind... ive been sitting here fermenting...

Well id say that a university would be a completly diffrent chanllenge then a millitary NCM school. if you are looking for more civi related education in the CF you would want commisiond member. But your looking at staying in for like 5 years after your education... but it is all paid for.

yes there are programs you can take to become an officer, im not too sure what they are tho. but i think myjob is much more fun then an officers anyway... they dont touch the explosives or anything... they just stand there and point.

If your already an NCM you need a certin amount of time in service before you can apply to OCS. RMC offers the Regular Officer Training Program. But having been an NCM before hand, I dont know if you can step up to it straight from where you are.
But you are right. Enlisted personel always have more fun.

Did some special training while I was in, and now with my diving career, Im getting some offers from the Military to come back.
The offer is pretty good, but has some drawbacks (of course). So, Im not sure what Im going to do yet.
