Getting my teeth whitened
Well for the past few months i've been trying to get my teeth a few shades whiter and haven't had any luck. I've used toothpastes, crest white strips and even mouth washes, yet still no luck.
I was wondering if anyone has gone to their dentist and gotten your teeth professionally whitened and if so, how was it? Did it work, how much did it end up costing you, did you experience any pains or differences with your teeth, was it worth it? Im thinking about getting mine professionally done but would like to hear some feedback from someone who has gotten there's done before. Other then getting them done at my dentist, what other ways could I try or what methods have you tried that got your teeth white? |

i just got some fillings, and asked them about whitening the teeth. one option was putting ur teeth in some kind of mouth cup filled with gel. cost i forget but it wasnt to much. or using x ray or blue ray or something like that. it cost around $400

i went and got the special cusomt gel molds. for 2 weeks you injkect the molds with this clear gel and wear it while you sleep... it wasn't that uncomfortable at all. worked really well
you get to keep the molds and every time you want to whiten it's like 15 bucks for a tube of the gel |

My dentist told me most people prefer to get the molds and the gel.
He said some people said it was uncomfortable but most people prefer them. As for price, I don't really care how much it costs as long as it works but with the molds and the gel at least I can maintain my whiter teeth as opposed to getting them xray'd all the time. |

Yeah that's the problem with Crest White Strips. They made my gums kind of hurt and my teeth really sensitive so I stopped using them.
Toothpaste with the whitening stuff in it made my teeth a few shades whiter and now they aren't going any whiter. So it looks like my last resort is to get them done professionally. |

Since i work in a dental office we get alot of people asking about tooth whitening. What we usually recommend is trying any of the "over the counter" products. Toothpaste, the crest white strips, etc. For some people it works like a charm for some it doesnt. The trays (that you get done at your dentist) and the gel are usually the ones people are asking for. They do have a higher concentration of the whitening agent than the other the counter ones (obviously), so they DO work. Price wise, every dentist has it's own fees, so anywhere from $100 to $300 -ish plus anywhere from $15-$20 for a gel refill. Mind you, you only have to do "touch ups" once a year or so after you achieve you're desirable shade. The downside with ANY tooth whitening stuff is that it makes your teeth very very sensitive. Also if you have any crowns, fillings, etc, those wont change in color, so either deal with it like that or have the fillings/crowns replaced (which again costs money). Also drinking/eating anything that stains WILL stain your teeth. And the whiter they are the more you notice any stain.
Im just blabbing on but if anyone wants more indepth info let me know. |
