New troops in Iraq= troop build up for Iran?

What is a wum troll? All I know is that when you have a destitute population facing a huge military insurgance, it can only create more conflict. How would you like the US in your backyard, speaking a foriegn language, murdering your leader, stealing your oil, etc, etc.

I'd say one of the reasons this war is unpopular is that they havn't been able to get around to stealing the oil.
If I was running the show those oil pumps would be penned off from the population, and gas would be back around 40 cents/L.

To invade Iran they would need alot more then another 20,000 troops.

I read an estimate (war game) on this subject and a light invasion force for Iran would be 400,000+. A small force like this would basically be meant to go in kill the leadership, destroy their nuclear program, and then get the fuck out. Now if they actually wanted to occupy so they could also steal the oil we're looking at a 1,000,000+ soldiers.

Iran is more than 3 times larger than Iraq geographically, has nearly triple the population, and has a powerful modern army. The US is not going to walk in there in 72 hours with 300,000 troops and take the country.

Haven't you noticed how the US has gone from demanding Iran stop their nuclear development to suggesting multilateral negotiations?

A good Book to read is the latest Edition of "How to Make War".

Very informative and a great way to run simulations and force projections yourself.

I used to know the previous Edition pretty well from cover-to-cover.

The USA so isnt maing a buildup to invade IRAN until they have sufficiently suceeded or lost in IRAQ.

Iran is also a huuge combat operation. Though i would say to anyone trying to say the USA could not handle it that you are wrong. There is not a nation on this planet that the USA could not invade, perhaps except for China and India only due to MASSIVE populations.

The USA need only use its vastly superior military might to blow the shit of the opposing army before it has a chance to do any real damage.

Be realistic in that the USA has the ability to mobilize so much airborne firepower at a single time that they could probably destroy the core of Irans military and Nuclear might within 2 weeks of heavy air attacks. They could also launch missiles from the USA fited with non nuclear war heads if they really wanted to go over board.

But its all about public opinion and Global Opinion. And i highly doubt Bush has the time, the money, or the support to engage in such a huuuge military operation costing billions of dollars a day in high tech weaponary.

If anything these 20000 troops will help the USA make iraq into a giant airbase that they can use to bomb everyone else around Iraq easier :)
