US Soldiers Admit to Rape & Murder of 14yr Old & Execution of Her Family
FULL STORY HERE OFF THE BBC
A second US soldier's plea of guilty to the gang rape of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and the killing of her and her family has been accepted by a judge. Sgt Paul Cortez admitted four murders, rape and conspiracy to rape. His plea means he will avoid the death penalty. In November, Specialist James Barker, 24, admitted rape and murder over the killings and was jailed for 90 years. He said: "During the time me and Barker were raping Abeer, I heard five or six gunshots that came from the bedroom. "After Barker was done, Green came out of the bedroom and said that he had killed them all, that all of them were dead." Cortez added: "Green then placed himself between Abeer's legs to rape her. When Green was finished, he stood up and shot Abeer in the head two or three times." The entire crime took about five minutes and the girl knew her parents and sister had been shot while she was being raped, the hearing heard. ________________________________________ __ This is beyond word. My lexicon is utterly under-equipped to describe the disgust that this story makes me feel. What makes this story all the more sickening is the fact that this son-of-a-bitch has managed to escape the death penalty. On top of that, the complete failure of any sort of managment and training here just pushes this beyond the pale. A Note: Please, please, please don't turn this thread into a damnation of the entire US Army. There are good men and women that are fighting the good fight all over the world and not just in Iraq. These few men are no different than the serial killers out in the civilian population. You wouldn't condem the entire population of BC based on Pickton's actions. |

US Soldier Gets 100 Years for Iraq Rape & Killing - Follow up Story at CNN
FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky (AP) -- A U.S. soldier was sentenced to 100 years in prison Thursday for the gang rape and murder of an Iraqi girl and the killing of her family last year. Sgt. Paul E. Cortez, 24, also was given a dishonorable discharge. He will be eligible for parole in 10 years under the terms of his plea agreement. Cortez, of Barstow, California, pleaded guilty this week to four counts of felony murder, rape and conspiracy to rapein a case considered among the worst atrocities by U.S. military personnel in Iraq. The military judge hearing the case, Col. Stephen R. Henley, issued a sentence of life in prison without parole, the maximum for the charges. Under military law, the defendant is given the lesser sentence unless he violates terms of the plea agreement, which requires Cortez to testify against others charged in the case. Psychologist Charles Figley testified that Cortez and the other soldiers likely suffered stress brought on by fatigue and trauma. "It eats you up," Figley said. "It's a horrible thing. This is not unique. We've seen this in other wars." Five soldiers who served with Cortez in Iraq testified that his actions were out of character and described the hardships of war they experienced, including sleep deprivation and the lack of running water. Prosecutors said the stress was no excuse for the actions of Cortez and the other soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell. On Wednesday, Cortez described raping the girl in her family's home in Mahmoudiya last March, along with Spc. James Barker, 24. Barker pleaded guilty in November to rape and murder and was sentenced to 90 years in military prison. ________________________________________ _________ First off, 10 years. Ten fucking years. For Murdering an innocent, civilian family and raping and murdering their 14-year old daughter. What the fuck has happened to any semblance of justice?! Are you seriously going to try and play off sleep deprivation and dehydration as an excuse for such atrocity? How can you possibly make that claim? What God-Damned basis do you have to qualify the actions of these animals? How on earth will the neighbors of that family react? How will their town react? How will the people of Iraq react to such a judgement? |

Try and remember these guys are trained soldiers. Yeah, they could get mobbed, but they are combat trained. I'd prefer it if they had to serve their sentance in Iraq.

Its so sad we cant trust solders, ironically who are fighting for peace.I really have hard time understanding where ideas of such sick actions come from. And you know if these few can come out and admit what they did, you can imagine what we dont hear :(

Ahh but i will also point out, they are in a military prison, everyone else is trained at fighting as welll.. and has spent much more time hitting the weights... not to mention american soldeirs are some of the worst trained hand to hand combat troops in the world due to heavy reliances on rifle butts, knives, and other such objects.

This kinda shit makes you so mad you can't even really express it in words. The thing that makes me mad is these soldiers are trained to go through villages and kill people who are left near bomb sites and what not, but it's obviously not something they admit. So they go around confident they can get away with shit like that, and in most cases do. |

well if you look up the verse's you see there are different translations where the sentences are structured differently. The point i was making was that a lot of these canonical texts can be taken as didactic or allegorical. Revelation's validity has been contested and since it is canonical then it must have been used for some political reason. The church didn't select certain texts and leave others out for no reason at all.

Peds are never in gp, never. They protect them, give them counselling because pedophilia is believed to be an psychological illness that can be treated. I too believe it can be treated. With a bullet in the head. |

They never put pedophiles in general population, because they know what the other inmates will do to them. They have a word for people like them in jail, "skinners" and if they were ever to be mixed in with general population for any reason.. they would be fucked

Yeh need i remind us of this newsbit from the summer: http://abcnews.go.com/International/...ory?id=2202895 Once you view this type of behaviour as a disorder and start protecting these type of people they start banding together feeling they have a right to legitimize their behaviour, makes me sick. |
