HELP:Places to take someone visiting Vancouver?

Can I PLEASE get some suggestions as to where to take a 24 yr old guy (in terms of both RESTAURANTS and Places to see in Vancouver) who's going to be visiting Vancouver for 3 days from the states?

In your opinion...
-What are good things to see/do in Vancouver? (excluding raves/clubs/parties)
-What are some good laid-back decently priced restaurants/cafes/lounges to take someone visiting Vancouver?
-Where can you find excellent Sushi in the downtown area? I usually go to Sushi House for good sushi but that's in Burnaby... If possible, I'd prefer not to have to step out of downtown since he's staying downtown.

I have put some thought into this but would love to hear some fresh perspectives.

ubc has the nitobe gardens & some other cool things

About touiristy things it all depends on your guests interests.
I recomend the downtown sushi bar. On davie between bute and jervis. Fair prices and excelent sushi. If you want something a little fancier try Tsunami Sushi. On robson between Burrard and thurlow. once again excellent sushi but a little pricier

-queen elizabeth park and botanical gardens if weather is nice
-vancouver giants junior hockey at coliseum
-up grouse mountain
-granville island
-day trip to whistler/sea to sky highway
-steveston for fish and chips
-walk around seawall
-art gallery has fred hertzog photo exhibit on now featuring tons of shots of vancouver from 40-50 ywars ago
-walk up and down commercial drive, shopping coffee, lunch
-chinatown and sun-yat sen gardens

I'm not using my laptop right now... and thankyou...

I've considered both cap suspension bridge and stanley park already... but I went to the capilano suspension bridge website and it seems that the bridge is still closed for repairs due to the storms earlier in the year...

As for Stanley park.. I am thinking of taking him there at the same time as possibly taking him to the fish house restaurant...

But either location isn't as beautiful if it rains.. I pray for good weather :(

But to be asbolutely honest although I've never been to the Sushi bar I'm not sure that I agree that Tsunami Sushi has "Excellent" sushi.. The floating sushi is kinda neat though.. but to each his own.

That said, i recommend you try Sushi House one day :)

It's in burnaby.. the quality of fish is generally great.. japanese owned and operated and their BBQ unagi is fucking delicious. The price is also right!

Sadly I do not have a car at this time :( I am getting one in the upcoming months... but my friend is coming in less than 2 weeks.

looked at the menu and it looks like they serve japanese home-cooked meal style foods though, which is kinda nice. Nothing like mom food :)

I'll keep those places in mind for potential sushi spots if I get too lazy to take him to Burnaby (sushi house) with me.

For lounges/restaurants, Alibi Room, Session 3, Guu, nevermind, tropika, banana leaf are a few that come to mind. http://www.dinehere.ca/ <- is a great site for restaurant/lounge ideas.

If it's nice, I'd recommend going over to the island for the day, hit up the sights there, go to Sam's Deli for lunch, Pagliacci's for italian pasta goodness.

go on the aquabus to granville island, aquabus the whole false creek, theater sports in granville island, yaletown, chinatown (dimsum) or the chinese garden, samurai sushi on davie for sushi, guu on thurlow/robson for crazy awesome japanese food, science world, omnimax, imax (happy feet was so awesome..but not 3d) (at imax you get a coupon for stonegrill..buy one get one free meal..SO WORTH IT), english bay...get some cupcakes, commercial for breakfast, longsdale quay to buy some light snacks for a nice lil picnic at cypress viewpoint, vancouver aqaurium, greater vancouver zoo (in langley), indoor rock climbing near cambie bridge, pitch and putt in stanley park, go karts in richmond, bowling at the zone or the sketchy hotel place on marine/main, beyond lounge at the century hotel for some mini burgers and oh might delish draft heiniken, wow...i have a good life.

Sushi House is Awesome!!

I won't list the restaurants ppl already suggested.
-I recommend "Musashi" on the corner of Denman and Robson for Sashimi and Sake. Japanese owned. Always the same sushiman works there.
-If you like good quality All-U-Can-Eat sushi, and korean-style bbq in the middle of your table, Shabushan on Alberni near SportMart is place to go. About $20 for lunch, $30 for dinner +tip I believe.

Impress him.

Drop the coin and book a window table @ Grouse Nest Restaurant up Grouse mountain. When you book dinner, the lift is complimentary. Make sure you ring enviro-can to get a clear day/night.
Book your dinner for 1/2 hour before sunset. Head up an hour before while it's still light out.
Let your bud see the Lower Mainland.
Then, while you have dinner, the sun will set, and all the lights of the Lower Mainland will come on.

Hike up to the headwaters and chill out w/ a few drinks (bring a mickie or wineskin). Watch for wardens.

Walking tour: Cordova and Water. Head east down Water. Turn right on Carral and go South. Turn Left @ Hastings heading east. One block east of Main, turn right, south. Three blocks down, turn right, West. Stop @ Hon's for a bowl of noodle or chow mein. Head west, past Sun Yet San (?) Gardens towards the Skytrain tracks. Stop under the tracks @ the Skateboard park and watch a few moves by the boarder brats. Continue west to Skytrain. You're on your own from there....
Make sure to inform your bud that he's just walked through Gastown, the Downtown Eastside; poorest postal code in North America, the worst drug area in North America, and historic Chinatown.
Bonus points for stopping in for a smoke @ the Amsterdam Cafe (if it's still open...)

i suggest cypress mountain. if you have a car, it will be worth the drive becuse it has a nice little area on the mountain whitch has a priceless view.

but thurlow is more "real".. andrew and i are guu conisieurs..WE KNOW. its definately more memorable if you go to the thurlow one...it makes you feel like you're out of the city.
