for people who aren't in school...

just wondering for those who aren't in school if your planning to go back or if not what you're doing career wise and if it has been easy for you to get a good job regardless of not having a degree?

I have a good job and I don't have a degree.
However, I'm working towards my degree doing online classes through Thompson Rivers University. My job & wage are good for my age, however, if I ever want to move higher within the company I will need further education. It IS possible to get a great job w/out post-secondary education, but it's a lot easier if you have a degree.

A 'good job' is entirely subjective.

i have a diploma in audio production that i got about 3 years ago wich is nice and it got me some work in that feild wich is great. im glad i did it.ive been out of school since then.

it turned out im excellent in sales. i have a long, proven track record of high closeing ratios. So im not really ever worried about getting a good job. doing something that makes me HAPPY!, thats what i try to focus on.

i would like to go back to school. but it would be for my own personal improvement and satisfaction and not just to get a higher paying job. like perhaps antropology or history. that would be nice...

but im sure, when im done traveling around and milling about, ill take the plunge and probably go to VFS for audio post wich would be like a masters degree to my diploma in academic terms.

that.... or sell ultra high-end audio equipment or be a vendor rep.

i dont really buy into the whole "you must have a degree to be a success" thing. Experience, and just straight up SELLING YOURSELF as a profitable, money making asset for the employer is effective.

.....and BIG TIME personality mirroring! lol.......

Education is not a substitution for intelligence. You can quote me on that.

No, it does not measure intelligence, something proven to me at my job... where I am the youngest and pretty much everyone has some form of degree and they are stuck working at telus, something that is completely unrelated to their degree

I said post secondary, not high school. High school is a complete joke, as long as you know how to manipulate the system, it does not test your ability other than to memorize and regurgitate information in exams.

Post secondary, whether it be a degree, a trade or a diploma requires dedication, as you are working towards doing something that you want to do for the rest of your life

EDIT For ista

Sure it does. You just have to be resourceful.

Most of the time!

I know alot of people that have left college/univ with some kind of degree/certification and years later STILL cant find a job in their feild..or the job they find requires further education or more in-work experience...kind of a vicious circle

Online job banks. Problem solved. If it's what you want to do then go somewhere there are jobs in that field.
