I think the main reason ppl who are not in school or may/may not go back is because they dont know what they really want to do yet with their "career". Why spend so much money going to school and than changing your mind.
At 19 I knew I wanted a decent job, but wasn't 100% on dedicating 5 years to teaching. Instead I took a year of school for special ed. to get a test of what its like in the education system. For the passed few years I have enjoyed my "career" as a Teacher Assistant, but im starting to get board. Although its great pay for my age now... it wont be enough to raise kids on my own. There fore I plan to go back this fall and slowing earn my teaching degree. Not to mention I have always had the ambition to go to university and get a degree no matter what. Ive always been a firm believer that you can never learn enough and im way too young to end school now. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Mar 05, 07 at 02:10 AM. |

The least you could do is participate in the topic at hand, and then maybe we'll let you get away with starting shit. |

I don't have a degree and have a fairly decent career, it all depends on what you want to go for, some occupations require it and others don't, as stated if you want to ever get to an executive level you will more than likely need one.
In my field pretty much all of my colleagues have had computer science or engineering degrees, this made me somewhat insecure, until it turned out i was managing some of those people. Eduaction does not come close to providing you with real world ambition, work ethic and the ability to think out of the box. My opinion has always been that for the most part, formal education is a measure of conformance rather than an measure of intelligence. My old boss told me a story about when he worked for a large oil company, he had to go to the University of Waterloo to find students for a co-op program. He told me that when he managed to find at least one or two students that could manage to tie their shoes up properly, he told them to "forget everything your learned in the past four years" lol could you imagine? all that time and money, you finally get an opportunity and you are told the last 4 years were a waste of time. That said, having a degree can make thing easier when you are starting out and trying to get your foot in the door. I have a friend that was hired by Microsoft mostly because of the school he went to in India, the guy was bright, but lazy as fuck. Last I heard he was doing pretty well. I've done a few poli sci and Business classes which have definately helped me out but I really don't have the ambition to do anything more. I have a great career and a couple of other avenues which help bring in the dollars.
PS people really need to put this girl on ignore or something. I'll admit the shit she says gets annoying but its usually after 2 pages of trying to defend herself that it affects me. |

sigh. This isn't fun anymore. I can't have an argument with someone who can't even grasp what I'm talking about. |

With the number of people cheating in College and University, I have no desire to go back.
I'm confident with the skills I have, and my never ending desire to learn. I read like a mad woman, I'm up to date on current events. I'm just not all that bright when it comes to science and math. College and University don't "open your eyes" to the world. Life experiences do! |

so in the end it just shows that any education is good. also alot of professions require a degree just to get started. for me getting a BA was just the start, ill probably be in school for another 5 years. Last edited by SEAN!; Mar 05, 07 at 01:54 PM. |

thanks?
Either way, did anyone read that article in Maclean's a few weeks ago how the majorityof people who are obtaining degrees now are cheating to get them? Someone with a post secondary education will make more money than someone with just highschool, but I still believe that travelling will open your eyes more to the world than taking a class on physics :) |
