I work full time.
So that means by the end of this year i'll have made $55,000 if I don't work any over time.

But, because I love money so much, I try to work two overtime shifts a month at $53/hour. My shifts are 12 hours long and I get paid for 11 hours of it. I'll email you a photocopy of my $70,000 T4 next year.

i started a bachelor of science, did a year of that, then switched over into a two year IT diploma program which was a lot more hands on. i wanted to get into the work force right away, and it paid off for me. i got a decent job a little after college, and then got promoted (which is what got me to move here). i make good money and don't have problems finding good jobs, but i still consider going back to finish the degree sometime.

around 2350$ roughly a week (i think) is not a small paycheck for one person...

I totally disagree. Firstly, perhaps I just don't see it happening very often, but I don't really notice people cheating to get degrees. Its actually very difficult to cheat, at least in the Arts, since you have to come up with an original idea, so that rules out looking at someone else's exam or handing in an essay you didn't write. I have never cheated once, nor has anyone else I know (I am in 3rd year at UBC).

Secondly, all life experiences are potentially beneficial, but it really depends on the person who is going through these experiences. It is very easy to travel through Europe getting drunk/high and only remembering a few interesting castles and candid tourist moments. I know because I spent my entire grade 12 year, when I was 17 doing just this.

Thirdly, we live in a society that recognizes post-secondary degrees as being a substantial stepping-stone. I don’t agree that it means you have learned more or are 'smarter' to any extend, just it seems as though it would be more beneficial than an expensive trip somewhere that leads to a nice tan or a scrapbook full of memories.

My point is that if I hadn't spent all those years in school, I wouldn't be making the money that I do now. You're a bill collector for the government? Is that what you do? Or do you do third party collections? So even if you are making $50,000 a year (which i highly doubt, and if so, you've included your commission in that figure), you'll likely stay at (or around) that wage.

I doubt there's much room for advancement. And I doubt you have job security. Someone with a degree and same amount of experience as you will get any promotions that might have come your way.
