Now i understand how important it is to check with a new employer to ensure that they are taking off the MAXIMUM amount of tax per cheque. It would have only been an extra 20-40 bucks per cheque too. I'm kicking myself for it now!!

At my new job I ask them to take off $40.00 a pay cheque. My last job I got them to take off $20.00, and I am not taking the risk. I would rather have a little less on the 1st and the 15th then having to owe in the end. And who knows I might even get a return next year :).

It still doesn't make any sense considering you only worked 6 months of a year and the other 6 months you'd be on maternity leave. I think you mentioned in one of your other posts that you were collecting from EI however still it should be tax exempt. Besides isn't there some type of benefits that the government offers for new families in regards to taxes??? At least thats what I thought... I think however that there should be a law put into place to ensure that employers take the necessary amount of taxes off each paycheck. Otherwise its left with situations like this which is just absolutely wrong...

^ Amen to that.

I don't understand why they wouldn't do that in the first place. Even EI did that to me, they haven't been taking off enough taxes, so i will OWE again this year. This is rediculous!

God reading this I'm scared to find out the outcome of my taxes. I've always recieved a return in the past, but most of my coworkers are saying that they owe money this year. I'm trying to not to go in with any expectations, but I just hope I don't owe a bunch of money when I was expecting to at least break even. :s

I dont know how its possible.
The only thing i had to pay anything on was the child tax, like 70$, but still ended up geting a good chunk back.
