Tom lee is probably the worst place to buy a guitar.
If you have your heart set on a used guitar, not another guitar shop on granville and broadway almost only sells used guitars. They also have a great selection of unique models (in case you don't want a strat :) )
Long and mcuqade is a better store to buy from then tom lee. Better customer service, prices and selection. The one on granville and broadway (two doors down from not another guitar shop) is has the best selection of all the long and mcquades in vancouver. If you're in the suburbs check out the one in surrey on 108th.
Craigslist is good if you know what your looking for or how to play. If you don't know what you are doing there is a good chance you'll get ripped off. The best bet if you want to go this way is to guilt a friend who knows something about guitars to come with you.
As for buying a used guitar, if you are just learning, I would honnestly recomend renting one from Long and Mcquade. You can get a nice fender or gibson for $15-$25 bucks a month.
Remeber buying a guitar is an investment, your going to get in what you put in. It sounds stupid, but playing a nice fender, is a lot easier then playing a squier.
