so i'm visiting the parentals for dinner and as i walk in a see a girl i didn't know. apparently she's the daughter of my dad's friend who was visiting, 17, and is just chillin on the couch watching much music. i don't really think much of it. i found it strange that the guy brough his kid and that she didn't have anywhere to go like a friends house, and essentially she was just killing time because it was an adult gathering.

i finish eating and am ready to head out the door when my mom grabs my hand. apparently it was the girls birthday, and that her dad drags her to his buddy's house unbeknownst to her to have an impromptu birthday party with 5 fucken strangers and her dad there

im like wtf, and try to leave. mom launches into some rant about how the guy is all fucked up because his wife left him and that he gets "lonely" and thats why he dragged his daughter there, and that it would be so nice if i could just sing happy birthday, take a picture, and then GTFO.

i didn't do that. everyone gets mad at me, argument ensues. girl is standing there in the background like she wishes she could disappear and then the dad has the nerve to call me an uncaring asshole, when i barely even know the guy either.

i would have taken the picture and made the effort to talk\make her feel less uncomfertable rather then start and argument and make her feel even more uncomfertable.

you're probably right on all counts. the thing is though i check in later and apparently she was at my parents house till 11 pm, and they got there at 6. her dad was basically shooting the shit with my dad, and my mom actually had to tell him a bunch of times, "hey your daughter is still sitting on the couch wanting to go home if you haven't noticed" like she's a jacket and that he'll take her home when he's ready.

Maybe her father called you uncaring because you were being a little prick making a big deal over nothing. Sounds like you're the 17yrold chump. Welcome to the world of adults where your family asks you to contribute instead of bailing. I think it was less of trying to "impress" the girl and more of having a family moment where each participant puts in an equal amount of social effort.
