I usually go on a monthly cleansing spree where I delete people on my list that I don't really care for. If I find them mildly annoying, I'll just set it up so I receive very minimal feeds from them. If they're REALLY annoying, block them - they won't be able to search for you or see any of your activity. The people I'm not that close to, I'll send them to my limited list.
Facebook is so customizable, it's awesome!
