Face book Apps

What do you guys think? Are you liking the variety, or do they piss you off?

I dont know if I like where they are taking facebook. Facebook is going from a simple format to myspace. And whats with the Trakzor shit that everyones getting? bleh, I just want a simple profile/communications page!

I say Fuck Trackzor. I for one like facebook for the fact that people don't know when I'm stalking them...I mean networking with them.

The thing I can't stand is all the updates telling me people added these stupid apps, and what's worse, all the links and notes people make when they take those stupid quizzes. I have to sort through all that bs when I really just wanna know who's uploaded pics from the wknd, etc.

yeah, most peoples modus operandi on there is to make their 'status' throughout the week something like, '*Whoever* is waiting for the weekend and hates his/her job :-('

then on the weekend it changes to 'Whoever is thrilled the weekend is here again, lol!!'

then last day of the weekend they add like 5 new albums - 'night at whatever bar, got wasted, lol!!', 'drinking with sminky and dinky part 12', 'squigglers b-day party, lol!!'

and then the people they know have the same number of photos detailing the exact same night of drinking

gawd, Web 2.0 is just starting to get silly as quickly as it got cool. Every single website on the interweb is plaster widget and .net/ruby/ajax apps all over the place like so many lame ass stickers on your 8th grade binders. Its a shame too, because I keep seeing really damned slick applications.

Too many bells and whistles. I switched from myspace because of that, I liked facebook's simplicity. I also recently read the application terms and conditions and they're pretty creepy. Did you know that by clicking "I agree" to facebook's terms of use, you give them full rights to use everything on your profile except your contact info? Including your photos. The ads are stupid too.

If I'm putting it on the internet, I don't really care about it in the first place. A legal notice won't stop anybody else from doing the same thing with all of my "valuable" information. Plus; remember how myspace has the right to do the same thing with every song that is uploaded?

You might get quite a kick out of a lot of other legal disclaimers and agreements.

Don't install them if you don't like them, it's so simple guys! The great thing about facebook is you can customize which ones you want to install and which ones you want to block. I have Traktor blocked - no complaints there.

You know, you can customize your news/feeds by selecting what type of information you want displayed. I have removed all email notifications as they just flood my mailbox.

Facebook is great, try playing around with it.

EDIT: Traktor ONLY tracks you if you agree to it, you have to click on someone's traktor, and then agree to be tracked. You are then registered as a visitor and therefore, tracked. If you don't install the program, or disagree to being tracked, it will not track you. It will simply state you as ? and the time you visited.

Also, a lot of these programs are third party apps, outside of facebook.

I agree. Case in point: I still use facebook.

The apps just bring its invasive qualities more to the surface and I brought it up because I know a lot of people don't know/think about that stuff.

After over 20 people asking me, not one of them has been able to convince me to open a facebook account. Am I right that it sucks or am I missing something?

missing something... Its great tool to reconnect you to people you have not seen since highschool or before. Also if you attend university or college its an awesome way to network with people in your school + classes as it was preaty much built for that purpose.

I like the apps.
I added the Travel one so that if I'm traveling to the same place at the same time as one of my friends, I will know. I also added iLike.
Some of them are stupid, but I won't add them

All in all, I love facebook :)

There's a few of the applications that I think are kinda neat, but the majority of them are overkill I think. Too much crap on peoples pages to scroll down through.

The only app I've bothered to use is slideshow because it's an easy way to show off pics on your main profile. No clicking into all the albums or anything and you can add music (albeit a slim selection) to make it a bit more fun.

Other than that I'll leave them alone cuz if there's one thing I hate, and it's the BIGGEST reason I left mysapce in the dust, is a cluttered and overwhelming profile page with VIDEOS, MUSIC, SUPER FLASHY 'OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!' WALLPAPER, AND TOP ONE MILLION FRIENDS THAT I HARDLY KNOW!!!

Facebook is definitely superior to MySpace however I do find some of the newer apps very annoying.

Like Stabby said though, Facebook is completely customizable. If you don't like the apps, don't add them and if you find people that do add the apps annoying, block the activity from that app specifically!
