Black Choppers over Vancouver

So around 1:30pm today I'm sitting at my computer and I hear a helicopter. Not terribly uncommon, but it does seem to be louder than normal, and it doesn't seem to be passing overhead.

So I step out on my deck and see this:

just hovering close by, well below the minimum altitude the city requires for helicopters. I thought it was something going on on the top of one of the apartment buildings as he didn't seem to be moving at all, just occasionally spinning around in place, but not actually flying off from the position he was holding.

So I grabbed my camera and took a couple shots, because it was rather weird. Then just as I'm finishing up, ANOTHER black chopper shows up:

At this point I flip on the radio and find out about the protest by the Port of Vancouver Truckers and figure the must be somehow related. My apartment is still a fair distance from the route the truckers were taking, so an element of intrigue is still surrounding these two:

So _that's_ what that was all about.

I noticed them, too, while I was running around doing errands.

When I was waiting to cross Georgia on Granville, 4 trucks were heading eastbound in a convoy (no trailers) with signs on their grills. They didn't make ANY sense to me at the time, but, I figured it was _some_ kind of protest, because they were doing their DAMNDEST to be as noisy as possible, using their engine breaks all the way down the street.

All I could think of was, "Where's a cop?"
After the big splash in the papers, yesterday about them crackin' down on noisy vehicles and all....

I love how while the rest of the world was doing the rest of the world was hosting Live Earth concerts to raise awareness about global warning Vancouver had 100 truck polluting the place up for a purely symbolic gesture...

not only were they making alot of noise in the city (now that the police can ticket for excessive noise from a vehicle) but I saw 3 trucks use there engine brakes downtown... Using engine brakes in a city is illegal....

And ya about the helicopters... I was on hastings between beatstreet and vinyl records and noticed a helicopter just hovering way up high... was kinda strange seeing it hovering at that height and all.

Well, if you think of what the truckers were doing I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the helicopters were some sort of security measure to track the trucks. A huge convey of trucks moving from the port into downtown Vancouver... what if one truck was trying to smuggle something from the port? A huge convoy of trucks seems like an awfully nice way to cover your tracks with.
