That's probably for the best.
Your arguement being, someone I know, got a call from someone else at a party, who was not impressed with B.trait's djing, and now I'm posting it on the internet. If I actually formed my opinion based on things like this I would be in serious trouble. |

As I said before, I am not about to state who said it and who saw these suppossed "DJ Lessons". I have some tact.
In addition, I was actually doing a google search for "female djs" and her name came up, which reminded me to search that particular event to read any online reviews and the first page I found on google was: "How did B-Traits rise so quickly". Having just been told about her recent performance, it seemed fine to state this information, without giving names. The fact of the matter is that MANY people have been extremely unimpressed with her mixing and these words have been spoken silently in the Vancouver DnB "scene". I do not know her personally and I have heard that she is a really nice person but I have heard her mix many times and I remember hearing a lot of "technical difficulties", myself. But hey, it's just an opinion and obviously a lot of people here think that this DJ is an exceptional mixer and yes, it is just opinion, just like how many other people are also saying the opposite. As I said, I'm out - I dropped the opinion, didn't mention names because I have enough respect not too but some people hear very differently to you and what they hear has been very different. |

I haven't heard her play btw. I was just pointing out that your arguement was painfully flawed. |

This is not a scientific manuscript ....
It is factual opinions, without names, in order to not create any future awkwardness for when these people meet again. Anyway ... only "big ups" comments allowed on this board. Some chic already sent me "bad karma" in my FNK inbox (LOL) ... I take everything back. |

I haven't heard anything negative from promoters/producers/dj's within the scene here in vancouver. Infact she has been getting alot of respect. She was signed with Formation and is now with Shy FX's label. And she's a DJ... Not a producer... To try and achieve that (being signed with a label when you have produced nothing) is rather difficult and rare.
It sounds like the individual is purely jealous of her. And they are probably one of those people that the scene has shunned against. They'll do anything for attention. |

i still find it hilarious that dnb people somehow think it's difficult to mix dnb but whatever.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the entire scene would die already so it can be reborn without all the elitist wankers desperately hanging onto a played-out formulaic sound, but i digress... I've heard b traits mix well, I've also heard her play a little off. Then again, I've heard Andy C sets where he wasn't playing his best as well. I've also heard supposed international "superstar" djs play it safe their entire set and barely mix more than 8 bars. I will say that although bri doesn't play the type of music i like, and she may not be pulling 3-deck triple drops or q-bert level turntablism, trying to say that she can't mix is ridiculous. Sounds like this "hugely influential dj/producer" in toronto hasn't really made it outside of toronto and is simply bitter about the success she is getting. |

is this really based on her ability to mix or her skills as a dj? lets be honest here.

Then you go and claim that you didn't want to name names because of tact? |

there needs to at least be some basic technical knowledge in order to get noticed... |

I just think it's dumb when some edm guy claims x genre is harder to mix than y genre. The hardest thing I've come across mixing-wise would be long blends of old-school disco. Last edited by dj_soo; Jul 16, 08 at 01:39 PM. |

either way, they're doing some great things and I hope they keep it up! It's good to have someone like that representing the westcoast. |
