Here's the deal - if you've been working at the same job for 6 years and you haven't gotten a raise, you suck at your job. Otherwise, your employer is doing something illegal. By law everyone is entitled to a review for a raise once per year (unless you are in a union and your contract states otherwise). If your employer does not give you a raise, they have to prove that your performance did not warrant one, and they also have to provide you with additional training and corrective action to correct your "areas of opportunity". If they don't do these things, you can take it up with the labor board. I don't agree with raising minimum wage. I started working when I was 15 and I sure as hell don't make anything close to minimum wage. The opportunities to learn, expand your knowledge, and move up in terms of wage are all over the place - in my experience people just want to get paid more without doing more. Raising minimum wage will do nothing but raise the cost of living and cost of goods - how else are companies going to make up for all the extra wages? |

i tried to be nice to you at first and that didn't work.... it appears as though you are going through the same thing, although we both know you provoked it. so what's left? do what i did. put them all on your ignore list. |

Interesting thought...
American min wage is $6, they pay lower taxes and dont receive free health care. Canadian min wage is $8, we pay more taxes and receive free health care. Although raising the min wage to $10 would not only mean more income tax to Canada, but more tax based on the increase of goods and services. In the end, Canada has more money for things like health care AND paying off the debt WHICH would equal a better economy. Is this hypothesis realistic? SEAN!??? |

It's fitting that a reference to a prominent comedian would be responded to by something completely without wit.
edit: I shouldn't have to do this.. Dennis Miller: Here with an editorial on taxes and crime is SNL news correspondent, Chris Rock. Chris Rock: Thank you, Dennis. Before I started comedy, I used to work at McDonald's making minimum wage. You know what that means when someone pays you minimum wage? You know what your boss was trying to say? It's like, "Hey if I could pay you less, I would, but it's against the law." Now minimum wage used to come up to about $200 a week and then they'd take out $50 in taxes. That's alot of money if you're only making $200 a week. That's kinda like kicking Monday and Tuesday in the ass. I hate taxes, I hate checks. I hate the fact that they put two amounts of money on your check. It's like: This is the money you worked all week for, and this is what you're gonna get. Don't tease me! Don't take off your bra and say: "Whatcha lookin' at?" I think taxes are the reason there's so much crime. Last edited by tiedye; Nov 13, 07 at 09:57 PM. |

Yeah. The majority of people making minimum wage work p/t flipping burgers or folding clothes - how much are those jobs really worth? IMO $10/hour to perform tasks that barely require any training (or brain power) is a little excessive. If you want more money, get a better job!
