try reseting the bios... when your in the bios it should tell you what button to reset the bios (Normally F9). Then save and exit and restart

Try doing a power cycle... Disconnect the power cable and hold on the power button for a minute... Reconnect... hopfully it should turn on..

Also disconnect any other third party devices hooked up to it (ie: printers, scanners, etc..) start it up and see what happens...

If these don't work and you are still having a blinking cursor then it can be quite possible that the mbr (master boot record) on the hdd is messed up..

Are there any beeps coming from the computer? if so how many beeps and how long are the beeps?

easy way to reset the bios is to take out the battery and put it back in, this returns it to the factory default. yes, we need to know about the beeps, a long beep means hardware failure

if your in recovery console... you can try chkdsk /r for it to fix up any files or what not before having to run an actual recovery and having to lose any of your data...

LEEROY CHANG!! will become famous soon enough
its not a bios issue because 1) you most likely didnt change any settings in your bios and 2) your system gets past your bios diagnostics during bootup

sounds like a harddrive failure. perhaps a corrupt boot sector. boot off your windows cd and run some diagnostics from the repair menu. if nothing fixes it you might have to either buy a new hd or reformat

if you can get a command line from the boot cd you can also try to rewrite the master boot record with:

fdisk /mbr

might wanna do a disk defrag.. There could be a shit load of bad memory clusters that is ultimately affecting the way the harddrive is reading information.

might want to not do ANY disk diagnostics until you backup your important files to cd. if your hd really is about to die, performing any disk diagnostics really stresses out the motor of your hd
