Seems obvious you're not an avid/regular skier, so, I'd recommend getting gear on the hill.
I'm assuming you might pay a touch more, but, for the sake of convenience, you don't have to transport the gear: drive up, pick up, drop off, drive away. However, if you're only going up for one day, then, I'd say it's worth the effort to pre-rent, so you're not chippin' away your snow-time waiting to get your gear; show up, buy ticket, ride/ski. Frosty (rented skis 10 times before buying board) |

the cheapest place I've found is this little shop near Stadium skytrain. I can't remember the name, but it's right next door to Chambar restaurant. Staff is friendly and helpful, and their gear is fine. I did all my renting with them before I bought my gear last year. Much cheaper than renting on the mountain.
They have a website, just search for "ski rentals in Vancouver" |

Wishbone try http://www.snowcovers.com/ Pretty much the mountains ski rentals are the worst witch will contribute to you being uncomforatbe, most likely resulting in a bad time on the slopes. |
