What is more important? The moment or the picture?
Now a days everyone has a digital camera, or at least a camera on their cell phone. So when you're at a concert/show or rave and a moment you know you'll remember for forever is about to happen do you:
A) sit and enjoy the moment? B) pull out your camera and miss the moment in hopes that you get a good recording for future reference and memory sake? |

yes! thats happened to me a couple of times.
ones i was so fucked on e when i took my camera out the light made my eyes twitch back and forth and almost made me blind so not only did i miss the chance of getting the moment on camera but i also missed the moment! |

Yeah, except there was guy doing just that at the Hardfloor show. The freaking gargoyles are everywhere. The guy just freaking glued to his tiny LCD... so lost in his technology he ain't paying any attention to the show he paid like 50 bills for. Just standing and staring at his cell phone for two hours. Sad really.

A good picture can share the moment with others so a really good picture can be awesome. Unfortunately it's hard to take a good picture while you're partying and overkill is lame.
I remember one of the last Automatic shows there was about 6 people who got new cameras and were all using them at once. It was intense. |

i take pictures of moments, but remember the entire event
i have a HORRIBLE memory on its own, but its great if i have visual cues. pictures are really the best way to go.. and yes. point and shoot. i would think it would be different for everyone.. but what about when your old and got alzheimers? pictures are going to be the only indication of you ever being in the moment ;) |

Some moments you don't need photos for, other times it will be a big event and so those photos can take you back to the "moment" when you look at them later. I have had some amazing experiences in my life: climbing mountains, white water sports, backcountry skiing, etc. and for most of these I don't have photos because they were before the days of the digital camera. I wish I had photos because a lot of the people on those trips are no longer a big part of my life and it's nice to look back on what photos I do have for nostalgia's sake. You may not need photos to remember the moment, but I think they're better. It's like you'll never forget your wedding day or the birth of your children, but how much better would it be to have a video/photo of the bride and groom exchanging rings or the ecstatic looks on mom and dad's faces the first time they hold their new baby? |
