Yeah, I was totally blown away! I figured maaaaaybe 3-4kms, but I was at that after a few hours on the first day. It's also really warm in my store - my temp assistant has been working for me since the beginning of November and has gone down two pant sizes just from walking around and sweating more because of the heat. It's like bikram's shopping, hahaha.

yo if your working that much on salary and not getting paid over time or a substantial bonus, unless you really love your job you should quit. ill speak on it.

taking compensation into perspective a 21 year old undergraduate will be hired out of university with an in vancouver (which means significantly discounted) base salary of 55-65K a year with a sign on of 10, and since their first year bonus for most of them is stub pay (meaning they start in july) they only get 10K. That means there making around 6-8 bucks an hour since 70-90 hours are the norm. they also are usually are working on deals that exceed hundreds of millions of dollars. However after 2 years, if they're good they will pull a 95k base and a 150-200k bonus. which is alot but at the same time people still make fun of them because their still making a piss poor hourly wage.

so unless you love, own or can see substantial benefits in the near future for working those types of hours in your workplace its not really worth it.

Since Im pretty much a sociopath that is willing to deny his own happiness for the next 7-10 years. i don't have any problems with working 90-100 hour weeks as long as i am putting those hours towards doing something that will generate decent exit opportunities. everyone needs to trade of into account, if id have any sense id say fuck it on go on a peruvian touch journey.

Oh wait, I didn't. I said I get vacation days (LOTS) and that I use them to actually go on vacation. I also said that I'll be getting a lot of lieu time during the slower season to make up for all my overtime. Annnnd I do get recognized, and I know that all of my hard work has, is and will continue to pay off in the future by means of salary, job flexibility, promotions, etc. - not to mention the fact that I fucking LOVE what I do!

I work for a publicly traded company, which in the retail world means great salary (and bonus), tons of room for advancement, reasonably flexible hours, etc.. Just because part-time employees make minimum wage to fold t-shirts and sell jeans doesn't mean that managers are paid to do the same things :) Retail managers are generally younger, and we make killer money for our age. And once we're promoted to higher positions, the job gets much cushier and salaries double and triple. Also, currently many retailers are experiencing management shortages which means even better salaries and benefits to increase retention.
