Childrens' TV Programming

This seems to be turning into a yearly rant...

The only time I end up watching broadcast tv is when I'm visiting family in Onscario (usually @ Xmas).

Having a 9 yr-old neice, and a 7 yr-old nephew, the tv is pretty-much commandeered, and, their preferences tend to land into the under-teen programming across several different cable stations.

To be consistent, I'll repeat what I always say,: I can't believe tv shows can get even _dumber_ than before!!!!

The animation/anime shows are lame, at best (only the slow-talking, skater dood on "6teen" comes anywhere near to cracking me up).

The black-kids' shows (psychic-girl, who's also on pop-group show, and jr. college-whiz kid) and the even MORE retarded white-kids' shows (Hannah Montana: the next Manufactured thing, or the "Suite Life of 2 Blonde Brats", etc...) are making kids dumber than school can make them smarter!!!

So, insert ME to bug/harrass/divert the kids' attention into _anything_ but this tv crap.

But, I'm only here for a couple of weeks out of the whole year.

~sigh~

Has anyone else actually LOOKED at any of this crap? Does anyone have any kid-relations who watch this shyte?
Does anyone take any kind of pro-active roles in context of this droid-screen crap?

I hate the majority of programming.

History Channel, CP24, Discovery Channel are about all I watch.

I make heavy rotation of BBC and adult swim shows on my comp.

I have a crapload of Animaniacs episodes too.

My niece and nephew are still on the Barney and Dora/Diago stage.:notrust:

They're still a little ways off for it, but their good ol' Uncle will be sure to give them a proper cartoon education with Warner Brothers (Golden and Silver Age) before this generation's crap destroys their sense of decency.

I have no doubt that the programming these days isn't as dope as ghostbusters/ninja turtles days... I just thought it was peculiar of you to segregate the types of shows as "white kid shows" n "black kid shows"...

When I was young enough to watch children's programming my choices were never based on the racial background of the show's cast. Just seems like an odd thing to even mention.

well most 'programming' is pure crap, as its mass marketed advertising with little content (i find)

one of my little cousins was offended by my uncle insulting paris hilton - i vote keep the children away from the idiot box and help them find more constructive (-actually- fun) and less mind-numbing and hypnotizing things to do than being sucked into the scary world of corporate brainwashing through "childrens programming" (or any other kind for that matter)

i mean, jesus, go play with trains or blocks or finger paints... or make a puppet show if you need to be entertained. i blame the lazyness of the parents and the inability to say no to their childrens superficial wants for aesthetically pleasing "cool" programs/toys/etc

Yeah, kids need tactile development and a lot of parents are ignoring this. To a lot of people "Tactile development" means buying their kids an XBOX.

And people wonder why Americans are fat.
