Australia issues travel warning against Canada
Australia issues travel warning against Canada
By THE CANADIAN PRESS Fri. Jan 25 - 1:42 PM Australians taking the advice of their government's ``Smart Traveller'' web site will likely be steering clear of Canada. That website, which is run by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has Canada listed as a country where travellers should ``exercise caution,'' which is the second-safest category. Apparently our problems stem from the threat of terrorism, heavy snow, ice and forest fires that can erupt ``at any time.'' British Columbia, in particular, was singled out as being in an active earthquake zone and ``subject to avalanches'' along with Alberta. Countries listed on the Smart Traveller website that are considered safer than Canada include Chile, South Korea and Latvia. Canada's Foreign Affairs website which offers advice to travellers has no official warnings against Australia, and says most Canadian visitors to that country don't have any problems. |

Well considering the majority of Australia's working/travelers head straight to Whistler and Silver Star to work. Not to mention I believe the fellow who died in the last avalanche was Australian. It might be wise to warn them.
However its not like Canadians dont have to worry about exstream sun burns, swimming in dangerous tides, crocks, sharks, the fact that the majority of the worlds deadliest snakes and spiders live in Australia, AND FOREST FIRES when going to Australia!?! Maybe we should calm their fear the same way they did at the Steve Erwin Zoo, claiming "More ppl get killed by vending machines a year" than these other very rare creatures and rare happening. i have issues with chile, south korea and latvia being safer than canada, considering that Latvians still think they live in a Soviet state, South Korea is open to attack by North Korea and Chile survived 17 years of totalitarianism under Pinochet only to experience a coalation government that went from US-supported oppression to socialism once again.
Though, overall, most governments today are sympathetic to socialism, even Canada and America, with America continuing trade ties with Canada, China, Poland and Russia. At the same time, a lot of totalitarian regimes are still in dialog with American diplomats among others, most of whom were taught in universities known to be hotbeds of socialism during the 60s. |
