Republicans are always going to vote republican, and democrats are always going to vote democrat - you simply have to hope that the candidate is strong enough and brings enough to the table to motivate people to get out and vote! I think democrats all over the US who haven't bothered to vote in previous elections are going to come out for this one for fear of another republican victory.

I think America works on the 40% Republicans 40% Democrats and
20% swing votes.
To win, a candidate has to win over his side and grab enough of the middle to carry the day.

^ Agreed. Most Americans know whether the support the democrats or the republicans, they just don't bother to vote. Candidates need to bring something new to the table and/or be inspiring to bring voters out. Clinton brings out women (esp. white women), Obama brings out black folks, the question in my mind is which one of them will bring out the less obvious voters? I guess we'll see!

That's because we vacation in Seattle, LA, NY and Boston, not Georgia, Kentucky, Wisconsin or Iowa.

TV comes from the same parts as well, now that I think of it.

^ I vacationed in Florida/Georgia/Tennessee this past summer and for once, completely understood the whole mentality behind re-electing Bush. It had nothing to do with HIM, and everything to do with the fact that he was running for the republican party. Unfortunate, but true, a lot of Americans just vote for the party they've always voted for, and they started voting for that party because their parents told them to 40 years ago, etc.
