You're right on all 3 points man. Those aside, buying a new vehicle is still a shithouse investment.

Gas is 7 dollars in Amsterdam and they still have a middle class. I don't see the middle class being destroyed in ten years, the extreme gluttony may come to end. Our healthcare system also helps keep the middle class as healthcare isn't an issue like in the states.

yeah dude we got it pretty good in canada, the fact that most of our education is subsidized and freely availible means in the long run things will be ok. the economy is constantly changing and education and skills training is good because those 60k a year jobs at the mill or car plant that even a highschool dropout could get dont exist anymore.

with no middle class the upper class has nothing. you need your pyramid builders to have your pyramid. wealth is predicated on taking advantage of the lower and middle class. always has been. always will. it's part of the design. so basically: fuck you you dumb shit. you'd be nothing without those you view by implication as "below" you.

True gas is very expensive all over Europe, I have family in Norway, and England. The thing with Euroupe is everything is so close together, that people don't often have a long commute, and can afford to bite the high price.

The States heathcare system is none existant. Isn't our Economy tied to the States at all? They are going down, and they will bring us down with them.

I do not make $100 grand a year. I was being sarcastic. I was implying if you don't make that kind of money, you are really going to feel the squeeze. I am not looking to buy a an expensive car, it would be nice though.... In my life I would like to make enough money to buy a house, have a studio for music in it (did you like the track I sent you at all?), a basic studio at that, go skiing, mountain biking, play hockey, and maybe have a rugrat, though I am not too keen on bringing a another soul into the world, maybe adoption would be a better thing. If I have a kid around I want them to be active; kids sports is not all that cheap, and I definatly want my child to learn piano, branching off into what ever instrument/music they want to get into.

And I won't have to make $100 grand a year to do that?

ps a sport touring bike would be nice as well...

Its true that we are nearing recession levels right now in the economy, I may be correct in hearing the banks cut interest rates back to 3.0. This doesn't look like its going to be like what happened in the early 90's and 80's, job losses in canada are going to be pretty minimal. As for your long commute tell that to the people who spend over an hour and a half doing it in london(granted most can use the tube).

Rawb pretty much made all the points i was going to make...

People who drive luxury cars, for the most part, are not complete idiots...

Nobody expects to buy a luxury car and call it an investment. Why do you go out and spend money on drinks? the same reason people go out and buy nice cars (most often lease, if it's a high end vehicle cause chances are they have their own business and are able to write it off as a business expense)

Especially if someone has their own business, and are trying to close new deals etc.... if you're meeting up with someone to close a 300k+ deal, and you roll up in a 91 tercel, it's not going to make a great first impression in them feeling secure with their investment. Sure it's not a be all end all of someone making a decision, but first impressions do play a big roll in business..

It's just a part of life... if you are doing financially well, then why not splurge and buy yourself a nice car to enjoy?

You are worried about the nice cars on the road?

I'm worried that I'll never be able to afford a house of my own in Vancouver... ever.

But at least I have my Audi. :)

ahahahahaha pretty much.

you're not fooling anyone with that lexus suv!

I love it. People get up to their ass in debt because driving an SUV is totally hot, despite the fact that they use a ton of gas and fuel prices haven't exactly decreased over the last few years...

the best part is, these people spend waaaaaaaay too much money to fill up their tank and idle in rush hour traffic, i doubt they ever fill the trunk with large items or take them off roading...

and then gas prices get higher and all people do is bitch about them and join facebook groups thinking that's going to change something, but it really changes nothing at all.

ahh. you can hate on me all you want for being a non driver, but in today's world it makes a lot of sense.

I agree on the basic fact that most of the SUVs out there are complete shite for offroading.

Bring back the original Pathfinder or Jeep Grand Cherokee already! Those can actually handle the backroads.

I remember one winter in HS my family drove down to California. Going through the Olympics was ridiculous, but what kept me entertained was all the people who figured "I have an SUV! I can offroad this baby!" going careening past us on the shoulder, just to see them plowed into a snowbank 100 yards further up.

I miss my old S10. Lightweight and reliable pickup. Never managed to push her above 140 klicks but she had traction like a mafugga. I was driving down from Lake Cowichan to Duncan once after a snowfall, and there was this big hill that many had been trying to move up. I just skipped ahead of the line and got up to the top, no problem. Took a little skillful driving but I was kicking the ass of the idiot in the Firebird who was spinning in circles in front of me. RWD and I didn't even have anything weighing down the back.
