Frickin expensive cars on the road
I've noticed that the quality of vehicles in and around Vancouver have rapidly increased. I suppose it's due to the rising dollar and the higher standard of living, etc. So, why haven't I experiences this "new found wealth," that everyone is thriving on? How much do you have to make an hour to drive a freaking Lexus?
Sure, I'm driving a nice car, but I'm talking about a $50,000+ car every block. |

How does a well documented fact that the US is behind 9/11 relate to my gross income. FYI, I was working with CMHC making a decent wage. After I payed rent, insurance, gas, utilities, food, entertainment, etc, there wasn't much left to count. I was lucky to get 6 months of Telus digital cable and internet for free. Even with all these "breaks," I've found it hard to save enough to even insure my car and pay for gas. Meanwhile, the garages in Yaletown look like a freakin car show. What gives? Old money or are these folks really making $100,000+ incomes?

Buying a new car is just about the worst possible investment you can buy into. They depreciate worse then virgin hookers just by driving em off the lot, new parts are an arm and a leg and you're paying top dollar at any luxary dealership for service.
instead of investing that 40k+ in a new one, buy an old classic and dump that money into restoring to oem. Wave off aircare and say hello to vintage auctions. |

Hahaha...I hope your not implying that I'm crazy. I know it sounds like I'm jealous of these folks, but in all honesty, I'm just surprised. Good on everyone who's doing well and buying new toys. I'll have a new M3 someday.

or you could also just invest said money so you could retire ten years earlier. |

sure I'm thinking of getting rid of it now. living downtown. never driving. priorities changing. but its been a huge treat. and I will do it again. here's hoping. working for a luxury car dealership part time might not help tho :) |

My coworker's comment upon seeing all the luxury cars tooling around was always "Wow!.. you must all be millionaires!" Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people were using home equity to get toys.. which is a strategy that might not pay off much longer from what I understand.. |

1) ALL THESE CARS ARE ON 3 YEAR LEASES, NOBODY'S BUYING THEM 2) I WOULD BET MOST OF THESE CARS ARE WRITTEN OFF AS A BUSINESS EXPENSE 3) IF YOU TRAVEL BY CAR/DO BUSINESS BY CAR, AN EXTRA $200-$400 A MONTH SPENT ON A BETTER VEHICLE CAN EASILY BE WORTH MUCH MORE THAN THAT IN COMFORT AND THE IMPRESSION YOU MAKE ON PEOPLE |
