Someone explain to me how a rumour about somebody dieing starts...

...because I can't figure it out. I mean apart from some celebrity I suppose seeing as rumours are rampant in that regard.

I received a message this morning saying someone I know had died. Stomach drops and I automatically feel sick. I quite obviously begin investigating and in due time find out that this is not the case. Now a rumour needs to start somewhere and who in their right mind decides to tell another person that someone has kicked it when they haven't?

I mean I'm obviously glad that it was indeed bullshit but still... fucking research your shit before you start spreading that kind of dismal information!

person A "oh did you hear matt died?" ...

person B "matt who? matt johnson"....

person A "yeah I think that's his last name"....

or you could, you know - ask the person?

I went back to FN once and two girls that I barely knew hugged me and with teary eyes told me they heard I had died.

I see both points here but in this case the someone is pretty much well known to all of us... well a good portion of us on the board anyways. I'm actually kind of surprised that it wasn't mentioned on here.

Either way it's a shitty thing to find out even IF you find out soon after that it's a sham.

I think maybe b/c rather than a online community for people to discuss their interests fnk has become a hangout for a handful of friends whos relationships could be affected by rumours and people who start them.

yeaaah i agree that drama is life..

who is fuckin who and who hates who, yeah that's trivial shit and it's pretty unavoidable.

life and death is not really a trivial matter, so i could understand why these sort of rumors would bother people

and to think, i would have no idea this even happened if it wasn't for the thread :P

though i agree with the OP, i have no idea how those sorts of rumors even start...and i agree with courtney, glad they are OK.
