Aspartame causes depression!
It's true! I'm now convinced of it. Besides all the Literature on the subject, I'm currently feeling a fair amount of down over the last four days, and I'm convinced now that the culprit is these cans of Diet Dr. Pepper I've been ingesting.
Anecdotal evidence, true, but this is the lowest I've felt since I first heard about this and stopped drinking Diet drinks. So maybe they're on to something. |

Hmm, where do I start.
First of all, anything that you can develop in a lab that is 500 times sweeter than something that comes out of the earth is not good for your body. Period. There is a crapload of research out there about the implications that things like aspartame has on someone's health. Don't go near it. Would it help if I told you that Aspartame was developed by the same team of chaps that invented Agent Orange? Yeah, that was a good idea at the time. There are a LOT of things that can make someone feel depressed, recreational drugs, stress, how much activity you engage in, life changes, how much you sleep, etc. and I think it's really silly you blame downing a few cans of stuff containing Aspartame on being depressed. Look at the big picture man, it's probably not the pop. I'm sure if you cut out the artificial sweeteners, you would still feel down from time to time (and guess what, feeling depressed once in awhile is normal. no cause for alarm required.) In the end you ARE what you EAT and your body is only going to treat you as well as you treat it. You're not going to end up feeling so awesome if you drink pop every day, because even the non diet stuff is full of sugar (and not the good kind) and actually dehydrates you in the end. |

hmmm, I have this thing where I'm not stupid addicted to sugar.
I'm feeling a bit down these days and I have been drinking a lot of coke zero. I'll give it a few months of drinking nothing but juice and see if it helps out. Stay tuned! (I'm drinking root beer right now, I saw your post shortly after purchasing the can of pop) |

If you're going to go to the grocery store, only buy things labeled as "100% juice" and avoid anything with things like 'made from concentrate', 'cocktail', etc. on the label.
Ceres is a good brand to go for, I find they can be a little on the sweet side though. If you still crave something fizzy try mixing it with a mixture of 1/2 juice and 1/2 mineral water. It's yummy! A lot of people hate on natural foods stores like capers and choices, but you will find a broader selection of healthy alternatives and to me it's sort of worth the extra dollar to know you're putting something better in your body. |
