is this shit for real?
has anyone tried this product? does it actually work? sounds a little sketchy to me... but if it actually works I'd be interested.
Cavolution ~ Reduce Your Carbon Footprint |

didn't read the article since I should be working on a project instead of being on here BUT I do know what it is...
The past couple weeks I've been hearing about these people hypermiling a lot around the Boston area. It works, the only problem is the police figure it isn't safe. For instance, some of these people turn of their engines and coast long distances. Obviously if the car has power brakes this could be a hazard. I find it very interesting though, personally I would just buy a Prius and possibly think of doing a plug in conversion. For people who can't afford a hybrid it is an appealing option I guess :) edit: forgot to actually mention I was talking about hypermiling :) Last edited by Leviathan; Jul 13, 08 at 11:15 AM. |

Looks like the only thing it'd be good for would be to clean out your injectors and help with winter starts, it looks and sounds like an octane booster. At 100+$/bottle you may as well hit up crappy tire and grab a 15$ bottle or start using premium gas.

Nope. You shouldn't be having carbon buildup issues in your injectors unless someones putting sugar in your gas or you havn't done a tuneup in 25-50k . It sounds like they're adding ethanol to boost the octane, wich improves sustained burning and combustion (higher octane). Changing your plugs and fuel filter will probably give you a more noticeable improvement. Older vehicle will benefit more from this product.
The automotive world is moving to phase out regular oil and push to semi-synthetics and full synthetics in newer vehicles, bores, milling and engine construction tolerances have never been so fine. These oils have antioxidants, anti foaming, detergents, and carbon seperators built into them. Think about using a friction reducer with your oil changes and switching to a heavier then recommended oil if you want to improve engine life. Thicker oil is more resistant to burning and it'll keep your oil pressure up. ( i Know a guy who drove a 93 chev astro van with 80/90 gear oil in the crankcase to a million clicks - don't attempt unless if you plan on plugging it in and keeping it in a closed garage in the winter months when not in use.) Start using premium gas or a 15$ bottle of octane booster with your fillups, it will make a difference. It says it's more green friendly, but the amount of shit that's gonna get pumped out of your exhaust is going to offset anything you put in. |

Also, there's no difference (barring syn/semi-syn/or reg)in the 3.50$ special bottle of oil or the 7.99$ bottle as long as they both meet the api service classification on the back. There's a little diamond on the back that should be S-? (gasoline engines) and C-? (diesel).
S-M is currently the highest for gas and CL-4 for deisel. |

a little bit more expensive, the highlander hybrid gets 30+mpg average Last edited by meth0dical; Jul 13, 08 at 12:20 PM. |

I did a tear down on the highlanders hybrid battery pack a few months ago at my last job. The Canadian portion of my current company makes plug in conversions for the Prius, I'm just not sure if we get staff discount because they are not cheap :)
