^ I couldn't agree with you more. The problem with PETAS approach is that for one they feel that they are the voice of the animals, because of course they can't do that themselves so they feel obligated to protect them. Which is why they come off as brash and offensive in what they are trying to get across. They personaly feel offended that humans would hurt the animals.
If PETA concentrated more on encouraging people to support local organic meats, fish whatever instead of consuming mass produced/abused and tortured meat if would have a better inpact on peoples way of thinking. But I guess that's more of a personal prespective. I also don't eat mamals for my own reasons stringent from PETAS prespective. An Newkirk burger would be pretty dry and highly stringy in texture don't you think? |

Take Bill-O. At first he catered to the Bible Belt fundamentalists. Then he realized that the more sensational he made his arguments, the more the leftwingers would start to watch his show (as a "see-what-he'll-do-next" curiosity would fill them). But sooner or later not only does the left-wing get sick and tired of him (and his ratings subsequently drop back), but in an effort to keep the shock-audience he then makes wilder and more ambitious claims, and then you start to see the Bible Belt fundies drop off because he's gone too far. Nowadays Bill-O doesn't have nearly the ratings he had even a year ago. Same thing happened with Limbaugh. Now whenever you hear about him, it's usually second-hand... nobody listens to his radio show except people who agree with him, but he's delved so far off the deep end that the only people left who agree with him are freaking lunatics! However, nobody with any clout really gives a damn about anything he says. Short term, no news is bad news. But ultimately it'll be the death of you. |

Folks, fuck PETA.
Firstly, because what humans do to other humans is so much more cruel and horrific than what humans do to animals and we will have to move past mans cruelty to man before we can even look at mans cruelty to animals. Secondly, because this ad is completely without basis. In no way shape or form is what happened to that poor bastard on that bus similar to the treatment of animals in the meat industry. It just isn't. PETA is using a gory, sensational story for no other purpose than shock value. Don't try and justify their actions with the cause PETA champions. The cause PETA champions should be above this. That fact that PETA wasn't above exploiting this event should be awfully fucking telling about the values of that organization. |

Actually no, I think the worst thing they did was quietly sanction the attempted murder of those who work with animal testing.

PETA's biggest ethical blunder here, of course, is piggybacking on the publicity of this gruesomely engaging story in order to push their agenda. However, given that they've shown themselves time and time again to be shock-value junkies (as Los said), it hardly seems like anything other than their usual M.O. As for their argument... they're trying to change something that's been going on for all of human existence.. I just think that for a lot of us, eating meat is too ingrained in our essence to make the drastic changes they propose (demand?). Until someone learns to shave cold cuts off of livestock without hurting them, we're just going to have to keep killing and eating them. P.S. ----> I am not at all opposed to improving conditions that the animals live in before they're put on my plate. P.P.S. ----> has anyone ever asked PETA why, if their main goal is to prevent the pain and suffering of animals, they don't travel to the African savannahs and find a way to keep cheetahs apart from wildebeests? Just a thought. |
